Default WRX To be serviced

Hey guys, just picked up my first wrx, 02 bugeye!

Well to make this a short story, I bought the scoob and took it through emissions and yaddy yadda. Went through smoothly and no problems, passed. The only thing is after about a day the I received a CEL and the guy I bought it from scanned it for me for free and said it was flashing misfire codes, and my stupid ass didn't write down all said codes. Anyways, I didn't think much of it due it not seeming like it had been misfiring but then I read up about the "Phantom" Misfires that the bugeyes seem to have, I started to stress a little more.

I believe I have a vacuum leak, and I have read that it cause the ECU to flash those codes. I also believe the previous owner might have modified the BPV to be atmospheric, due to it sounding like I have an after market BOV. (Also have Cold Air Intake and the silence delete thing too, I believe)

In conclusion to this big blob of text, I am probably going to have it serviced at the San Tan Subaru, I have read some good reviews but I was wondering if anyone in the SWIC has any connections with anyone that can steer me in the right direction. Thanks for reading this by the way!

Oh yeah, my name is Josh. Glad to be apart of NASIOC!

Where are you located? Have someone that actually knows subies and have them look under the hood. If the previous owner made the stock bypass valve run atmospheric then you def will have some problems there. If you have a cold air intake then the stock silence delete is automatically taken out. What intake? Some intakes do not make the subies run well.

Go to autozone and have them pull the codes for you they will do it for free or you can have someone with a tactrix cable pull them for you. You can buy the cable yourself I dont know what they cost these days but prob around 100 bucks.

I'm in Gilbert, Ray and Greenfield.

The thing is that the guy buys them at auctions then resells them so he doesn't have the full scoop on it. I am just assuming that the BPV is atmospheric due to it being pretty distinct and kinda loud. I have looked it up and down and it doesn't seem to be, so i'm only assuming..

I'm not exactly sure, its nothing fancy just a bull**** no name one...

I think the vacuum leak is coming from the turbo inlet pipe but I can't be exactly sure. Also think I need to get it tuned pretty badly, haha.

EDIT: Yeah, thanks V8..

If you want, I can take a look at it. You can swing by and I can pull the codes and just give you a general look over. I'm out in Queen Creek.

I'll PM you my number.

i had those misfires too. only during startup. once the car was warm, they went away. bad valve shims. its getting common on the older wrx's. if you don't find anything, keep this in mind

We found a tear in the turbo inlet tube. That along with the un-tuned cold air intake is what could be causing the problems.

And yes, I am creepy looking!!
