Default Has anyone done DIY hood vents?

I want to lower under the hood temps and I have a hood that I wouldn't feel to bad about cutting into. I have sceen some nice work on s200's but not on the wrx.

Recently found these but they are freaking ugly.

If anyone has done DIY hood vent please share your pics.

yea I am not a fan of that. I would rather have mesh and maybe powder coat it or paint it. The holes in the hood just look like a cheese grader.

Placement and positioning of the vents is crucial for them to work properly... You want hot air to exit from under the hood to lower under hood air temps & pressures, to allow the TMIC OR FMIC to become more efficient... In the front area of the hood is the lowest air pressures and while moving should "suck" out the hot air lowering, under hood temps AND air pressure.

That was one of the dumbest ideas I've seen in a long time. Instead of installing a CAI to lower IATs, let's just drill holes in the hood.

OP, what under hood temps are you looking to lower? IAT, TMIC, cooling?

I'd be interested to see some yarn testing of powderdayz' vents to see which way air is actually flowing at speed.

Once I get my hands on a spare hood I intend to install a vent behind the radiator using the vent from a '10 GT500. You can score the vent for ~$45 shipped. I'm going to cut an inch or two out of the center of it so it fits into the hood lines. It might end up looking like ass, but hopefully it'll be effective, which is all I really care about.

Just saw this thread today... LINK

Not my taste at all, but there are engine bay temp specs before and after. Looks like it might have actually made a difference.

Ive installed a WRC bonnet vent and made a carbon duct for it to exit hot air from the IC and under bonnet. I think that it has worked really well, temps stay around 78-82degrees celcius when driving even at WOT. It seems when i go faster that the temps drop further...

Hi guys, over here we have have body shops customizing bonnet this is my my05 wrx with the bonnet vents done. My main aim is to reduce the engine temps as it gets really hot especially in asian country and stuff in the engine bay keeps breaking apart due to the heat. Did some tests before and after the vents were installed. Engine bay temp dropped drastically especially on the highways. Removable rain shields were installed under the vents draining rain water while letting the hot air out.
