I'm sore but overall I'm ecstatic I essentially walked away from a 148 mph driver's side impact! Initially the paramedics thought I fractured my arm in two places and dislocated my thumb but once the swelling came down it appears to be minor fractures at the most.

I'll post more when I can and I was running in car video. We raised the APR 300 wing up into clean air and it just structurally failed prior to me entering the climbing esses at VIR. I turned in at 148 mph and that's all she wrote.

Glad to hear you are alright!

This scares me a bit though. I have seen other raise that wing up and we are also thinking of doing it. Did you see it collapse?

Damn, glad you walked away from that. Are you rebuilding the car or is there damage to the chassis?

I didn't know the wing came off but you can see in the video via the rear view mirror it coming off. We have the wing and you can see where the carbon mount failed between where it bolts to the aluminum uprights and the airfoil (Think where the mount tapers into the airfoil).

I can't blame APR because they didn't sell us the wing that way but I will warn others to consider what happened here before making such a modification. I'll be looking more towards companies that make wings for Grand-Am etc from this point on.

All the driver's side suspension, wheels, body, etc are damaged but the driveline and the passenger side parts are in good shape.

I've already secured a new shell from a customer, who just happened to ask me if anyone needed it when picking up his race engine, the day before this happened.

Glad you are ok Phil. Sorry about the incident.

Would you mind listing off the safety equiptment in the car and what you were wearing at the time.

Looking back is their any other saftey equipment you would have liked to have had in the car?

Well? The good news is our new motor configuration worked well on the dyno and felt great on the track.

Phil, you do this again and I'm going to re-time the cams to slow you down.

A new Element car will return, it will be faster, better handling and even safer.
