Default Where to get a Tire Mount & Balance...ghetto style

I've been using Walmart, but they've problematic the last 2 times. NTB wants $80 plus tax for 4 tires. I haven't checked with Discount Tire, but I'm sure they aren't cheaper. I'm looking for an independent shop that will do it for around $50 out the door. Any recommendations in NW Houston?

What is problematic w/ Walmart? Do you bring your own tires into Walmart and they install it? How much do they cost for install? Are you a Costco member? You should give them a call and see if they'll install your tires for you (once you get a membership if you are not a member). I know they charge $15 + tax per tire, but they fill the tires w/ nitrogen and put on new valve stems. But, that's on tires they sell (Michelin and Bridgestone).

I have yet to have a problem with wal-mart. And that's mounting 10 inch wide slicks (as well as tires for LeMons and others).

My Girlfriend has used wal-mart for years for her tire and lube needs.

Well she had her tires rotated and balenced and also had her oil changed. 2 weeks later we walk outside and one of her tires is completely flat. I pull the tire off and the inside wall of the tire was showing the belt all the way around the tire and it was impossible to hold air any longer.

Walmart told her nothing of uneven wear on her tires or the fact that a belt was showing and needed to be replaced.

Not to mention they had her car for over 2 hours. I can go to a local tire shop and be in/out in 20mins.

Ladell, you've been on this site for like, ...ever, and you still have to ask a question on everything you do?

We should be asking YOU these questions.

I had a flat repaired at Wal-Mart once and they scratched up my rim pretty badly. I filed a claim and thankfully within 2 weeks I had a check for the price of a new rim. Still, I'd never use them again. Discount Tire is the way to go.

The last time, I had to go to 3 different Walmarts to get one who would put on my 225/45/17 tires. They said it was too low profile. They one that did attempt it tore the bead off the tire. Then I went there to get my tires put on my Cherokee, they had me wait over an hour and a half to tell me they wouldn't do it because it was not the stock tire size, even though they new tires were the same size as on the vehicle. I've always recommended Walmart, but I need to find somewhere else.

I guess I need to find out which one you use. They quoted me $60 IF I bought the tires from them. $104 if I didn't.

As for the questions, I only "try" to ask questions that no one has answered (or sufficiently answered) on this thread, or if new information is likely available from old topics. As for this topic, in general, it's not original, but the specification of not being Discount, NTB, or Walmart, should bring about new answers.

I took my last car to Walmart to get the oil changed, when i got home i opened the hood to find my oil dipstick halfway inserted and bent to hell. That was my last time with them.

My oil pressure light came on about 10 minutes after leaving walmart for service...pulled over immediately and of course, the bolt to the oil pan was loose and I had lost about 80% of the oil....

this was on my honda before I started doing my own oil change lol

I look back now and regret pulling over. I should've kept driving to blow the engine...time for a new car, walmart! :P

walmart used to be legit but now-a-days its just a big blue store filled with un-knowledgeable employees and crowded angry customers complaining about bad customer service...
