Default 2010 Legacy GT 6-speed

Does anyone know if the 6-speed in the 2010 GT is the same as the 6-speed in the Spec B's?

No it is not. The Spec Bs unit is the STis unit.

The 2010 GTs unit is the standard 5 speed unit with an added gear. LegacyGT has the gear ratios for the GTs 6 speed. If I remember right, the first five ratios are exactly the same. 5th and 6th are over drive ratios.

Peace,

Greg

The 6 spd in the 2010 LGT is different than any 6 spd USDM subaru has seen. It finds its roots from the legacy diesel. The spec b (IIRC) is not the 6spd from the sti either. The spec b gears are narrower in width and did not have the same ratio's gear for gear as the 04-06 or 07-10.

I will say that the 2010 LGT is a completely different driving car than any subaru i've ever driven. Don't let the different body style sway you from taking it for a drive.

I actually saw a report the the 2010 LGT 6-spd in essentially the same as the 2009 Spec B, but 50 lbs. lighter. I drove one last night and bought it. Power/pull comes sooner and is very linear compared to my 07 WRX VF39. It is not nearly as strong as my modified WRX, especially at the top end, but it does feel stronger than the '10 WRX (though I don't think performance numbers are as good). I got my Premium with moonroof and H/K 400 watt stereo for $3k over a price I was quoted for a new WRX Premium and $6k less than a price quoted for a '10 STi with no options. The kicker for me was this:

The information I got about the tranny was from legacygt.com (not that it is more dependable), that related the tranny to the diesel legacy and furtherd it away from the spec b's and showed closer similarities to the the lgtd.

Regardless, it feels strong. It took a while to get used to the shifter after driving an sti with a ss. The turbo feels strongest in 3rd gear due to the tuning but there is no feel of lag what so ever. Cobb ap beta map is incredible

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay OTD? I'm in the market for one right now and just comparing prices. Thanks in advance!

The 2010 LGT 6-speed is a modified version of the old 5-speed. It may have come out of the need to handle more torque for the diesel. The case may have been re-enforced again. However, it is a split case design and not related to the Sti or Spec B. There is a reason it is 50# lighter. They may have redesigned it to fit the STi's gears but I wouldn't think the boost would be limited if they did.

The Sti and spec b trans are not a split case design. Unsure of the ratio difference between the STi and Spec b. Seem to remember they were the same part number. Maybe just the case is?

Crazy8 there is a lot more over at LegacyGT. There was a guy on the east cost that dynoed his car stock. Then tuned, boost was very limited in the first 2-3 gears. Don't remember, can't search myself right now will try later.

Over at LegacyGT check out forum in the fifth gen tiled "Stage 1 FINAL RESULTS". It appears the boost in the first three gears are limited to 7-10 PSI depending on RPM. Roll on the power and the trans should be fine. However, I think there is a reason they are keeping the boost so low.

Peace,

Greg
