Default 04 STI Wiring harness Vs.05+ Wiring harness

So I am doing a full sti swap in my 02. I am changing out the wiring harness and I wanted to run a 04 sti wiring harness and ecu so i didnt have to have to deal with the mobilizers. I know that the best way would be to get a stand alone and it wouldnt matter but im not trying to spend more money. the only thing is my friend has a sti wiring harness (that he will give me) and i been looking around for weeks and cant find out what year it is. I know for a fact its either 04 or 05.

So does anyone know how to tell the difference in looking at it?

First fill out your profile.

I'm going to assume that you are talking about the bulkhead harness.

The easiest way to tell is to look at the plug where the DCCD control module hooks in. If there is one plug it's an 04 if there are two plugs it's an 05-07. Also where the gauge cluster harness plugs in the 04 will have two long flat plugs like your stock 02 harness, the 05-07 will have two plugs that are more square in shape.

You can still use the 05-07 harness with an 04 ECU and not have to deal with the immobilizer. But you will need to run an 05-07 cluster harness, DCCD module, ABS G sensor, and maybe a few other things. Regardless of which harness you use there are going to be a few things you will need to change anyways. The rear door harness plugs changed in 04, from two plugs, to just one. You will need to reuse your 02 plugs or get different door harnesses. The front seat belt plugs changed also. You will also need to use an STi front, cluster (even if you get an 04 bulkhead harness), rear, and gas tank harness. The rear and tank harnesses are the same for 04-07 IIRC. The front section should be the same as well. You will need to change the plugs for the radiator fans though to work with your fans.

thanks that answered a lot of my questions. I am doing a complete wire harness swap since my friend got the whole thing.
