Default Remove UTEC?

Hey everybody. I have a 2002 WRX with 54k on the clock. It has a turbo-back exhaust and no other mods (except suspension). The previous owner had a UTEC programmer on it that I leave set to 0 for what should be "stock" mapping. Just wondering what the overall recommendation for this piece is. Should I remove it? I don't intend to get in and swap a bunch of settings around. Is it possible that it's messing w/ my everyday "stock" performance of the car? I think if I were ever going to screw with the computer I'd have a pro just tune the cars computer for my specific application (but perhaps the UTEC is a better option for that). Seeing what the forum consensus might be. If a removal is suggested, anyone know how to do that? Is it as straight forward as locating it and pulling it out? Thanks in advance.

Keep it and download the stage 2 base map? It is easy and free and you will have gains.

Keep it for sure. Also, since its a piggy back ECM type of system, when you have it in 0, it is not interfering with your system at all, everything is being run through just your stock ECU without the UTEC having any say, so no worries.

An ECU reflash is a wonderful thing for daily drive-ability and good to great power gains.. On a factory ECU, what are some of the top tuners up to, 500HP, 600HP? More?

But factor in the UTEC where you can drive additional outputs for injectors, launch control, solenoids, etc... You have a near full standalone, without having to get a full standalone ECU.

Want a race gas map? no need to reflash, just change the map switch! E85, same thing.

As others have said, keep it.

Get Clark to tune it for you. I run a UTEC on my car and it works great.

What is said above ^^^ The best idea is to have your stock ecu reflashed for your mods then you can have the different utec maps for different gas, timing, nos, water spray, meth, etc.

You say you will probably leave it stock but I would still keep just in case unless you are really hurtin for money.
