Default I'll PayPal someone $5 if they can answer this question (organic chemistry).

So I have my organic chemistry () final on Tuesday, and the prof told us that this problem exactly would be on the final and be worth a lot of points, because nobody got it right on the last test.
I suck ass at chemistry, and need to make sure that I get every one of these "free" points.

So, buy yourself a Little Caesar's Hot & Ready, compliments of Jackie, by solving this chemistry problem and posting the product and mechanism.

You have my word that you'll receive $5 in your PayPal account.

I put 42 as my answer the first time and it was, in fact, incorrect

Good luck.

The first step looks like an SN/E reaction. I'll be damned if I can remember how it works with beta(?) diketoacids. Ugh.

Ok this is a lot easier than expected.

Jackie, in your case you go to #4.

Update: Jackie, in your case the R' in #4 is the molecule in step2 of your original problem WITHOUT the Chloride.

I would draw it for you, but I don't have a tablet anymore and my drawing skeelz are in the dumps. This is a textbook acetoacetic ester synthesis.

I am PM'ing you my paypal now.

And here I was putting the answer into an animated Powerpoint slide presentation.

Looks like I was just a little bit too slow.

Didn't know I was racing here.

I applaud you if you knew the answer off the top of your head. It's been 4 years since organic chemistry and all I remember are the right terms to google.
