someone had asked what the difference in the group letter was. Group X (expert) Group N (Novice) and Group B (beginner).

If I recall correctly B is 0-3 rallies completed, N 4-10 and X is 11 and above.

The course is almost ready. We think you will find that these roads are even better than usual. We’ll be running in the Monterrey County and San Benito County areas. These are some truly wonderful roads. In fact, several are listed in most of the "most beautiful back roads" books. Running these roads at night, when the civilians are all tucked in, is a very special experience. Most of these roads, well..., you won’t even see another car, at least not one that’s not on this rally. We think you will find it a very savory evening.

For Group B, we will be using handouts very similar to Paul McGaffey’s on Ocean’s Eleven. They seemed to work really well as all Group B people found their way to the finish on that event.

Checkout (the rally dress rehearsal) for Midnight Run will be on June 5 - 6. If you feel like you’d like to participate in Checkout, or if you’d like to help work the event itself on June 26 - 27, please let me know right away.

SPECIAL OFFER

Enter before June 15 and receive a $25 discount. That lowers the entry to only $50 for Group X. But, if you’re a Group B entry, and you’ve got at least one first time entrant, AND if you enter by June 15, the entry is FREE. Go to www.carzero.freeservers.com/entryform.pdf and print out the entry form. Complete the information and mail it to the address shown (ITN, PO Box 642261, Los Angeles, CA 90064).

UPCOMING

There are no more ITN events scheduled for this year. However, if anyone out there would like take the lead to put on a rally in, say, late October, the ITN club will be happy to help.

We sincerely hope we see all of you on the Midnight Run, June 26 - 27.

Default Midnight Run update

This is Joe from ITN. I just finished a full run of the course for Midnight Run. This is the best collection of roads we've ever had on a rally. Seriously. Most are wide open type roads, with big, sweeping turns. There are few short pieces of twisty stuff thrown in. There are some long runs following rivers, turns gently flowing back and forth. There are farmlands, mountains, canyons and creeks. There is one incredible "tunnel of trees" that goes for over 20 miles.

You see, the reason we go all night is so we can have these roads to ourselves. There really is nothing else like it. And 12 hours is short. Really short. I was just watching my video of the 1965 Alpine Rally. There were only 2 stages. Stage one was 25 hours long. Stage 2 was 28 hours long. 8 hour break in between. Like I said, 12 hours is short.

And if you can be there, you will see. Staying up all night, pushing the car to the max the whole way, has a mind-altering effect. It will transfigure your reality. In a good way. You and your rally partner will never forget the experience. It is truly epic, in the real sense of the term.

So I'm offering something special to all NASIOC members. Print this post and bring it to registration and we will WAIVE the entry fee. That's right, we're inviting you to run this rally for FREE. Just send an email to carzero@aol.com by June 15 and we'll guarantee your entry. Don't miss this one.

Hello out there. Ran checkout on Sat. and Sunday. I don't know how Joe finds these roads, they are spectacular. Some of them I knew, most were new to me. And all were awesome. He has the stops and breaks planned just right, and the food at Harris Ranch is great, I recommend the sirloin burger and eggs with their homemade biscuits for breakfast! Hope to see some of you out there.

Good idea, many of the roads you will be on are middle of nowhere, very dark, narrow, old pavement, sharp curves that are not signed. Good lights will be helpful!

It will be, for sure! In some places, you will be heading west into the setting sun! Have sunglasses for sure, and clean the windows, inside and out, thoroughly, to improve vision. Carry cleaning stuff with you for windows!

Joe came up with something new, spray the front of your car with Pam, or something like it. Dirt and bugs will come off easier. And if you get hungry, you can fry an egg on the hood! There are some unreal roads, and in places, triple digits could be reached.

I will be out there working 4 checkpoints, hope to see you all out on the road!

Hey Joe! My cousin/nav, Jeremy, and I are in for this one. It's been a while since we've run one, but my WRX wagon was stolen, and I became a dad in the meantime. We're looking forward to getting back out there.

Just want to make sure there's going to be gas stations open out there on the route. My new car has a range of just about 200 miles per tank.
