Arrow My Custom Grill

Here are some quick pics of the grill I had made for my 98 GT.

I am looking for some new metal mesh for the grill insert, but I have not found anything I like just yet.

It looks great!. I was wondering when you were going to post some pictures of it. Is that a Cusco bar? Did you have any problems with the hood hitting it? Are you a believer in the strut tower bar now? I noticed a stiffer front with mine. I also noticed more "bump rattle".

how'd you have the grill made and about how much did it cost? I was thinking about doing the same thing for my 2000 legacy

Default custom grill too...

You blacked out your chrome polish grill and mesh...very clean very nice...I left mine chrome polish and just put a finer mesh...just enough to see whats behind (i.e. Hella supertones and Bel Radar detector mounted to the right!)

Thanks for the kind words.

- Bagheera85:

I hate to say it, but I don't know exatly where the throttle body is, so I am not sure which box you are talking about. I suspect you are refering to the large black plastic torque reserve that's inline with the intake. The box works to build torque for our little engines . Sorry I don't know more.

- HIHO:

The Strut Brace was $30 on eBay, including shipping. No fancy brand here. I bought it because it was cheap and I figured it couldn't hurt. Luckily, I have no fittament issues with the bar and the hood. No, I have not really noticed any change in my front end, but I won't really know until I take it to the autocross tomorrow. I do believe the brace illiminated a rattle that I had behind the glove box and in one of the dash vents. For that I think it is well worth $30. Plus it looks kinda cool.

- SevenStyle:

I had the mesh grill made at a local body shop that specializes in custom work, i.e. show cars and custom body enhancements. I purchased a used GT grill and brought it to the shop with explicit instructions of what I wanted the grill to look like. They cut out all of the plastic inside of the outer-most rim and glued some fine wire mesh to the inside lip. Then they sanded down the grill and painted it black granite pearl, to match the car. The whole thing cost me $30 for a used GT grill, and only $50 for the body shop's work. I got a great deal from the shop because they were supposed to use a different, more expensive metal mesh, but their supplier ran out, so they felt bad and only charged me half of the $100 quote. I think the grill totally changed the look of the front end, and I am very happy with the results.

- Ken:

You know your car looks tight too, especially with the custom grill you made What I wouldn't give to have a silver car....

jacobhorn - very nicely done Jacob! I was thinking of something similar too, but with finer mesh. So what'd you do w/ your OE GT grill

Bagheera85 - that box is an intake resonance chamber, for all N/A Legacys it is present. An intercooler would normally sit there if it were turbo.

Looks good Jacob... like you said, it did change the overal look of the front end for the better. Excellent deal you work out to, eh? A bit heavier mesh would look that much more tight.

Strut tower bar to reduce rattles... hmmm, I've got a few of those Never thought a bar would be the solution. Interested to hear what you think of your bar, post Auto-X.

Did you ever get those replacement WL rear springs installed? Post picks when you do... interested in seeing the difference.

Ken's Silver sure would be easier to maintain a finish on. But the black sure does look good when cleaned up... nice photos.

snowone:

Thanks man! No, I have not yet installed my replacement Whiteline rear springs. I too am very anxious to see the difference, but I am waiting for my new Brullen exhaust to arrive so I can have all installed at the same time. I will deffinately post before/after pics once all is installed. Your right, black looks tight, but silver is soooo much easier to keep clean.

any gain from cold air intake?

which ebay vendor for the front strut brace? I know there are couple around after search but want to get one which fits for sure.

it would be cool if you can black out the radiator! the hood lock is naked now!

edit: don't black out the radiator...black is not good to disspate heat...

thx

Hey Jacob,

Very nice! Sooner or later we'll meet ... our gt's are similar ... at the last autocross in Everett ... Novice pm ... several folks asked if I knew you ... ...

I will be at the Torque Steerer's two day event .... pm on Saturday, am on Sunday .. July 13/14 .. meet you then perhaps?

If you still have your original grill ... I'd be interested in it ... have a slightly different idea I'd like to try ...

Those cars look nice. I too would like to know where exactly to find a $30 front strut tower brace. That seems like a deal worth taking for sure. I've wanted to do something to my grille, but have only made the black emblem blue. It still looks better than stock but not as good as those cars posted above...

- etam and janikphoto:

Here is the link to the Subaru Front Strut Brace I bought on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1826739015

The total price, including shipping was $30.00 and the item was delivered to my door 4 days after payment. The brace is deffinately not the greatest, but it does the job as well as any strut brace.

- cfwdfwz:

Sorry I missed you at the last Autocross, I ran in the AM STS. I too plan on attending the Torque Steerer's event in Everette, so I hopefully will get to meet you there. How did you do in your last race? Was it your first time? It is pretty fun to be the slow, automatic, family sedan that beats WRXs .

I still have my stock GT grill, but I will hang on to it a bit longer, in case I decide to sell the car and sell the custom grill. I'll let you know if I decide to sell it.

jacobhorn, that's looking pretty darn good. The paint on that grille is an exact match. Must be an excellent body shop.

I'm looking into an Orciari. I hope it pans out. Now I just have to track down that elusive money.

Good job!

etam:

I like the intake, as it is cheap and effective. I did not lose any low end torque and the filter gets "cool" air from inside of the fender wall. I would suggest the Ractive filter and Kartboy MAF adaptor to anyone who is looking for an effective no-frills intake. My car not only breathers cooler, it also sounds cooler with the intake.

AGscooby:

Thanks for the kind words! Let me know how your search for money and a grill goes

Default SILVER=CLEAN

...that's why I got it! Even when its dirty it still looks somewhat clean...but nothing beats a nicely wax MB '92 S600 & '00 S500 in black! ..."oh no, they're not mine...they're my dad's" I just get the luxury of washing and waxing his rides...His next car will be silver though... ! He's currently looking at the new E-Class E430 4 matic...maybe in 2 years
