Default Aflac meeting/waiver required?

So it seems like once a year my asshats from Aflac start contacting my coworkers and myself saying we have to attend an open enrollment meeting and/or sign a waiver if we don't want aflac.

They say it's to comply with some federal rule or regulation. I think they're full of **** and would like to tell them to **** off.

Is there seriously a US law requiring me to sign a goddamn waiver to opt out of this **** if I don't want it? I would think I would have to opt-in if I do want it not the other way around.

Yeah, it's always the former temp-turned-HR-generalist that is saying this crap is required. Never any actual citation.

I've never heard of a company that actually made Aflac part of any sort of benefit package. It's an individual-coverage insurance, which by definition should be opt-in only.

When you meet with the Aflac reps, ask to speak to the gecko. That should show them.

I work for a fortune-100 company and I've never been mandated to opt-in or out of aflac during our annual enrollment period.

Sounds like a hard-sales tactic.

Tell them that your standard rate for autographs is $100 and they'll get the autograph when they make their way through the line of fans.

What are they gonna do if you don't sign? Throw insurance at you?

My sister does HR for my mom's small business and she said that you DO need to sign a waiver.

Edit: "HR should make them, anyway. That way an employee can't go back and say it wasn't offered to them or some BS."

I would love to not sign it but the office manager / HR lady is a total follow the rules nazi. She would likely make me sign it.

I do try my best to avoid the Aflac lady and make her come back just to get my signature. There is no way she does not know that i play these games. Every time she comes I am the last person to sign the **** and she has to chase me down.

Scotty, sir, no you don't. Out of 4 claims filed with them at our facility in the last year , 3 were denied.

I cannot tell you the contempt I have for this company. They've screwed 3 of my employees, yet continue to collect their premiums.

PM me if you want details.

I say to stand firm and wait for the money to roll in before you offer an autograph. If you feel pressured to sign, use the old "John Hancock" or "Don L Duck". If you want to really piss them off, just start writing a random sentence in the signature spot and continue down the form, put in an arrow and continue nonsense on the back of the form. Do this until the cost of forms exceeds the AFLAC insurance premium.

I mean come on.......the Boston Firefighters all just got a humungous raise as a consession to random drug and alcohol testing. You should get money for your signature. No way, I'd be giving them my SS#.
