Default DOL road test/driving test Questions?

Hi everyone, I have a question about Driving test here in the state of WA. My girlfriend needs to take her driving test next week and as of right now I don't have any car besides my subie and she knows how to drive a standard car since she had a license from a different country. And now she moved here and decided to resides here with me for good. She wants to take her actual exam (Driving Test) for the WA drivers license.

I have some questions about the guidelines of WA DOL.

1) Is it ok to use a manual/standard car for the actual driving test at DOL?

2) Can you use a modified car to take for a driving test?

3) If not is there any alternative ways to take the test without buying a car for example: Rental cars, Zip car and etc...?

P.S. Im driving a 03 wrx stage 2 protune and on coilovers. << Im not sure if they will let her use this.

Thanks for the input.

They let you use any car. They just check if turn signals work and maybe some other small checks, but there are no restrictions that I know of

oh it doesnt have to be your car, but it does need insurance

What to bring to your driving test
You must provide all of the following:
-Proof you have auto liability insurance (insurance card, fax copy, or computer printout). Acceptable proof of insurance must include:
The name of the policyholder and/or a description of the vehicle (year, make/model, or “fleet”).
The effective and expiration dates of the insurance coverage.
-A vehicle in good working condition. All of the following must be working properly:
Brakes and all 3 brake lights
Turn signals
Seat belts
Passenger door (must open and close from inside and outside)
Driver door window (must roll down far enough to allow you to use hand signals)
Mirrors (outside left and inside rearview, or outside left and outside right)
Windshield wipers, headlights, and defrosters (if weather requires)

You won’t be allowed to take the driving test if you don’t bring proof of insurance or the vehicle doesn’t meet all these requirements

Thanks for the input I really appreciate it. I thought at first there's restriction on what kind of vehicles can be used on a driving test here in washington.

If she can spell her name, I'm sure she can pass.

I would rent a car personally... my wife is in the same boat (has a license from Argentina but just has an Oregon ID card) I plan to rent a Toyota Corolla or something with an auto tranny when test time comes.

I was thinking about renting too, but I'm not sure how it works. Is it going to be under my name or hers? And do I let them know it's for driving exam at the DMV?

Or, is there a friend that might let her use the car for the test? Like maybe have her use your moms car or something?

They also check your tires if I'm not mistaken.

Only issue i could see with a manual transmission is if she rolls backwards when starting from a stop. I bet they would ding her for that, even if it is just a little.

I took mine driving a manual. And I believe you are allowed to roll back 24" by law... I was not marked down for rolling backwards. But the big lady broke my dads passenger seat

Most of my friends have a manual transmission too and some of the people I know are scared to let someone that doesn't have a license borrow their car. and I asked my gf if she wants my parent's SUV and she said the chances of her failing will likely increase since it's soo hard to park that Nissan Armada and it will be hard to fit that in to streets by DMV at west seattle because most of the streets have cars parked both sides of the street.

I will try and look for someone I know that will let her borrow a car for a couple of days before her test.

Yea that would be an issue too since the roads are slippery and most of the places in west seattle have hills. Im hoping that it will be a nice weather on her test day.

Thanks for the info that's a good thing to know because for every time you stop on a manual transmssion there will be a roll back specially after they ask you to park on a hill. Haha I had a big and mean lady too when I took my test 5 years ago at the old DMV by rainier ave. in seattle, she had a hard time getting out of the car that I borrowed from my sister's bf for the driving test. it was a crx (auto) that was lowered on springs

My wife said she can rent a car with her Argentina drivers license (basically as a tourist) She said she has to buy the insurance from them though. I would not tell them its for a driving test. I would have the person driving the car for the test rent it. Then the insurance is all proper.
