Default anyone in prescott have a wrx tranny or engine out of a wrx?

I need to check and see how much play/noise/resistance there is on the input shaft on a wrx tranny that is known to be good.

Look in the manual use a dial gauge. Should not have any up down side to side play. In and out a lil. What would you need the engine for?

Is there a noise you are trying to diagnose? Try explaining the noise and when it happens I know it is hard but might be able to help.

Oh yeah dunno if you remember me I gave you the IAC gasket a while back but I am in P town for a few days and have heard a good share of bad trans. If time is available can see if a second opinion would help.

trying to locate a nasty grinding/rattle on decelaration only, and only after the car has been driven for awhile, also after it is all good and hot there is a rattle at idle that sounds almost like rod knock/pinging but both conditions go away as so as you push the clutch in. I took the engine out yesterday and I am leaning towards a bad throwout bearing, its an ACT and only has 12k on it.

Default Same F&^king Problem

I live in Dewey and work in Prescott. My car makes the same grinding noise during deceleration. Third gear is the worst, then fourth. 1st and 2nd dont make any noise. My car has a little under 130K on it and I'm hoping its not going to cost too much. Let me know if you figure out the problem and I'll post anything I learn as well.

When you push in the clutch does the noise instantly stop or can you hear it slow down kinda gradually?

yea noise instantly stops, pulled motor out today and the throwout bearing is like a dry rollerskate bearing, sucks since there is only 10 to 12k on it, thankfully i have my old one still so hopefully this fixes the problem.

^^^
when you drive do you keep your left foot riding over the clutch pedal?

even a little bit of pressure on it will cause the bearing to wear pre-maturely... i used to have the habit of riding over the clutch pedal and i wore mine out in a hurry...

well changing the throwout bearing didn't fix it, I removed heat shields and beat in a part of the exhaust that could touch towards the rear of the car, im really reaching out on a limb to try to find something other than the tranny. Ill find out if it was exhaust or heat shields tomorrow, its doubtful though.
