Default 2012 Volkswagen Passat / NMS Spied Testing In Europe

NEW SPY photos obtained today reveal that testing is well underway for Volkswagen's new mid-sized sedan, although its exact identity remains shrouded in mystery.
Volkswagen has in the past year confirmed a New Medium Sedan (NMS) for the US market, a vehicle similar in appearance to the brand's latest models, but supposedly larger than the next-generation Passat expected for Europe and Australia.

Both models however are expected to be powered by the same series of FSI petrol and TDI diesel engines, along with a hybrid model in Volkswagen's upcoming E-Mobility range.
These spy photos, the first in-the-wild shots of the new model, reveal a design that appears both longer and wider than the existing Passat. This suggests that either the new Passat will be larger, or that this test car is the US-market NMS and not the global Passat model.
The new model is expected to debut mid to late next year as a 2012 model.
