Default 98 Impreza Coupe Questions

Some questions regarding my 98 Impreza Coupe with the 2.2 engine.

Overfilled the oil today during an oil change. Cold oil level is up to the "notch" on the dipstick for hot oil.
Will it hurt to leave it that way or should I drain 1/2 quart to avert blown seals and other problems???????????

Is there supposed to be a splash pan beneath the radiator and front of the engine?
My 98 doesn't have one (lost by PO maybe?) while my son's 05 WRX did have one.

Drive belts for the alternator, AC, etc. are squealing at idle & low speeds. Belt dressing momentarily stops the noise.
Other than new belts is there a way to eliminate the squeal?

Thanks,
Roy

I'd drain it and fill to specified levels. Can't be too careful.

It could lead to blown seals as you said. It could also lead to less lubrication and low oil pressure... things you don't want to mess with. Or it couldn't since 1/2 quart isn't that much overfilled. I'd just redo it so it's 100% ok, others might not agree.

I don't even know if my '98 came with the splash pan you're talking about. It should be fine.

Bit the bullet and drained 1/2 quart of the new oil out. All is OK now.

Also put new belts on for the A/C and alternator. Now the horrible squealing at idle and low speeds are gone.

Thanks,
