Question 9011 HIR bulb for foglights?

I just finished reading a bunch of stuff about bulbs and what's available (stickies included).

Would HIR bulbs be a bad idea for fog lights? I know they generally scatter light low and wide, but i wasn't sure if replacing 9006 bulbs with trimmed 9011 bulbs would throw up too much glare. If there would be glare would putting a yellow film over the lens help?

thanks for the help!

Are your fog lights using 9006 bulbs already? They shouldn't be.
Also, as long as there is some sort of shield over the tip of the bulb, you should be fine as far as glare goes. Yellow Tint will defeat the purpose of having more light.

PS: to answer your question in short, yes, they're a bad idea for fog applications.

You shouldn't have 9006 bulbs in there.
But if you do, I wouldn't recommend HIRs.

Could you please explain why they are a bad idea? Road Glare? extra watts? it'll open up a black hole?

thanks!

PS- the 9006 bulbs are the stock spec'd bulbs.

Do the factory fogs have any sort of shield over the bulbs? If they do, go for it.

I installed HIR's in my fogs and I was not impressed. There was hardly any difference between stock and the HIR's. Save your money and put HIR's in your high beams They are a major improvement over stock highs.

MikePiper1 - were they 9012 HIR or 9011 HIR? I ask because the 9012 bulb has maybe 50% more light output than the 9006 where as the 9011 bulb have something like 110%.

The difference is the base. You will not be able to physically fit a 9011/hir1 bulb in your 9006 housing.
