Wait you have a moonroof? I hate you Since you are silver, it would probably look fine. However, I wonder if it would look like a departure from the current simple and clean look you have going on - unless that is the plan :-)

And by real, I mean removing the existing metal roof skin and replacing it with a carbon roof skin. Not just a carbon piece that's stuck onto the metal roof with tape or adhesive. Of course this is coming from a extremely picky person that took almost 6 months to pick out parts for my car and 2 months designing a bumper.

Carbon roof would be cool... but don't take this the wrong way but wouldn't a moonroof in it kinda defeat the purpose. Then again baller points are points non the less.

would the moon roof simply open so you could see the underside of your CF roof?

Okay, who wants 'em(the orciaris)?

They're just collecting dust right now and I decided to go a different route for spring.
Authentic and purchased from AutoPrue last fall.

I'm not doing a bulky overlay, but definitely not doing a full roof replacement either (it's not a good idea for a street car: makes sense only if you have a race car with roll cage to carry the torsional strength and don't care about road noise). Replacement would likely not fit with the moonroof as well. Had something in mind more like this guy: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...2306224&page=3

Designing stuff out ahead of time is really the way to go btw, I've always been more spur of the moment but builds that take their time really show the difference. I can say with confidence that I have a plan currently

Speaking of 'because shiny' parts, this arrived today...

Still not a fan it's pretty much no different than a 3M overlay. And just for the record that front bumper on that white wagon is hideous looking.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I feel like if he did something with where the fogs used to go instead of just making it acres of flat space, it would look better. The headlight mod is interesting though.

I think a euro bumper would be a 1000 times better (and give him a result he's looking for) but I admire that guys hard work.

It's completely different 3M is not real carbon fiber. That is real carbon fiber. Doesn't get more different than that... Agreed on the bumper

If I'm understanding your comparison to imply that it's disingenuous to have carbon fiber that is not carbon fiber ''all the way through'', I think the opposite. Most people with CF hoods and trunks really have a carbon veneer on fiberglass, and weigh about the same as the OEM hood/trunks since they're aluminum (unless you get much more expensive Cwest or Voltex dry carbon or something), and most people aren't concerned about it - why would people be concerned here (interesting aside: a guy I knew had a CWest v2 hood and said he could lift it and spin it around on one hand - that light).

When I say it's no different it's because it's still an overlay over a metal roof. And yes I realize that most carbon out there is nothing more than a overlay over fiber glass. I just think the roof looks extremely tacky if it is not done right. Hence the dislike for the overlays. The wagon with the I overlay still looks just like an overlay. He did a nice job but I still do not like the look.

And only the hoods on the WRX are aluminum. The trunk is steel.

Well he used some "white CF" fabric (which ironically isn't CF at all but twilled fiberglass)... as far as looks go there shouldn't be any difference in look between an overlay or replacement, as it's basically the same stuff (depending also maybe on amount of resin/epoxy used).

I dig the Ociari's !
