If you are really tracking your car, you swap when you get to the track and your running a wide lightweight racing wheel with sticky slicks or your doing it wrong.

Cant help myself... damn... I am a driver. I just don't get modding your car to perform worse.
I understand the point your trying to make. I'm not saying using Rotas are the best case scenario. If I could afford spending the money I would have an extra set of really expensive light wheels just for track days. But I'm not in the state to do that right now. And you would be very surprised how much friction even an inch can add to a tire and then multiplying that by 4 for all the tires. There's actually a calculator on a program I've seen where you can play around with these figures to tell you traction gain figures. I can almost guarantee from numbers I've seen and people ive talked to that you will get faster lap times running a wider heavier versus a lighter thiner wheel if those are your only two options. Of course were talking about numbers that are all relative and no way of really proving unless you do the dynamic analysis and independent tests haha. So really all we can do is agree to disagree unless we want to go through the numbers. And I also see your point on gas mileage which might be affected on city mpg's slightly but has no affect on highway miles. My buddy has done the before and after mpg's of the wheels were talking about on the highway and saw no difference. This must be the case because of the offset of having an 18" wheel will take less revolutions per mph than a 17" wheel. And if anyone has found a difference depending on wheel setups it was not drastic.

I've never been a fan of black on black, but for some reason this photo is amazing to me! And you can't be that broke if you have a car that clean!

Yeah, emissions testing (for me at least) is great...Newer cars do have their advantages, but I'd call you crazy if you traded your car for a bugeye. I might be able to forgive you if it were for a wagon though...

Kudos for diplomacy.

Nothing is drastic. Well not in this scenario, until you get outrageous. General rule of thumb tho is 1 lb or rotating mass = 10 lbs in the vehicle. Its like always driving around with a fat guy in your trunk

The basic laws of physics a heavier rotating mass will always take more effort to spin up and keep spinning. Even on the highway. Althoguh flushing tires has some aerodynamic advantages I would suspect.

As far as track... wider is better to a point, but less unsprung weight makes a large difference in the reaction speed of your suspension, but it has to be dialed in with proper spring rates and valving to work right. Just like all your angles have to be right to get quicker turn in times etc.

This stuff is race proven tech over years.

My only point in all of this?

There really isn't one. Its your car do what makes you happy.

Me... I always lean to performance over pretty. So my arguments always lean that way too.
