Default Cleaning the front o2 sensor with FIRE

Alright, so I've searched and found that some people clean their front o2 sensors with a torch and burn off the built up carbon.

Has anyone done this and can testify that it will work?

I don't want to spend $150 on a new one if I can clean mine, but I also want to be sure it's safe to do before I put a torch to my sensor.

I see EGT's of up to 1600°F. Will it work depends on how hot you get the sensor. I have done it a couple times on my wideband sensors to get alittle more life out of them.

Where are you finding a front o2 sensor for $150? I haven't found anything for my 02 WRX for under $230.00

I paid about $175. There are two dealers in my area and the price difference is amazing, so call around or try online.

So you got yours thru a Sube dealer?
The 2 parts suppliers locally (Auto Zone and O'Reilly) have them available special order online only and are both 230.00-231.00.

I will check with the Subaru dealer in Columbia (MO). They are the nearest dealer @ about 40 miles away.

Yes, I bought from a dealer. I heard that it was risky to get a non-OEM front sensor (may not work properly).

I got mine for $150 from a website 2 years ago. It was a genuine Denso O2 sensor.
