Angry Need some help, the subaru got a little extra lovin today

So long story short, a cop made a left turn with lights on and cut off a truck in front of me while we had a green. Truck slammed on the brakes, and so did I. The wrx came down to about 10mph and slammed into the back of the silverado. This happened on Baseline and Dobson, saw at least one Subaru out there who let me back into traffic.

Couple good things, guy was cool, didn't want to press charges, didn't say he was "injured" and we exchanged info, and that was it for him. The cop that helped us out with the incedent report said the other cop that cut off the truck was going to a bank robbery in progress, thats why he was in a rush.

My car is driveable, but not for long distances. I drove it to Scottsdale and the 202 to the Progressive Concierge Claim Center in hopes to find Flo, but to no avail. They are closed on the weekends, something my progressive rep on the phone neglected to tell me. Anyways, its there till monday morning when they open.

Would anyone here fight the city of Mesa? The Cop that helped us out noted that the policeman cut off the truck, and the driver of the truck said he would admit to being cut off by the policeman.

Does anyone here know a shop that would take good care of the car? From the looks of it I will be claiming it on insurance and what needs to be replaced seems to be the front bumper, the grille, the headlights, the hood, upper radiator support, upper radiator hose, and drivers fender. As mentioned I hit a Silverado, so naturally there was no damage to that car.

Im worried that my headlights wont be covered by insurance. I was told by the previous owner that they were EDM, but I haven't been in the car scene and on the forums enough to remember if that was true or not. I found a couple WRXs at the Pavs tonight that had my headlights. Where can I find them cheapest to make sure I can get them covered through insurance?

Thanks for the help!

So, did the cop that helped you out write you a ticket? Did he put something in writing stating that the police officer that was driving code 3 cut off the truck? At best the Silverado may have something but not you. You rear ended another vehicle. You are at fault. I know it sucks but just be happy you didn't get a ticket for failure to control your vehicle or not allowing enough following room to safely stop your vehicle.
To answer your question, No, I would not fight Mesa on this one.

$.02, deposited.

I got a case/incident number, and in that the cop helping us did take down the info on the other police vehicle cutting off the truck. I am fully aware of the hit from behind and you're at fault ruling in this state, just trying to see if there was any alternative at all.

trust me, I do consider this to be a good situation, minus the wrecked car, as it could have been a lot lot worse. Im just glad I didn't hit an overdramatic person that would have come out of her car and said I snapped her spine or something. I am also thankful that I didn't get a citation from mesa PD.

After talking to the insurance company, it looks like I will just have to pay the deductable, which in this case is lucky and I am glad that is all that I will have to pay.

Still wouldn't mind knowing if anyone can point me in the direction of where to find the EDM headlights for cheapest. Much appreciated.

this can go 2 ways

1 your at fault because you rear ended the car and get nothing

2 the cop by cutting off a car in normal driving situation and with you expecting a normal drive through said interchange till the cop changed it --aka all was normal till he made a possible illegal move thus making someone react and you to hit them --its all along the same lines as yelling "FIRE"(when there was none of course) in a theater and persons die -you did not kill them but you for yelling out fire get the "chair"

You might as well take it as far as you can... you really have nothing to loose. A few things to consider, making sure this is deemed at the worst no fault with insurance is important for your rates and future record. See if mesa would at the least pay part of the deductible if not the full? You're going to have to do your homework.. But it all comes down to, there is such a thing as impeding traffic.. and a vehicle no matter what can only stop so quickly under regular situations, etc..

As a driver in traffic you have the obligation to control your speed and distance between the car in front of you to avoid a collision if they need to suddenly stop.

But thats the legal side of it. How the civil side plays out in court could be a different matter completely.

Ok, so everything is going to work out.

I have a rental car, no charges are being pressed against me, no citations were issued, the driver of the silverado i hit isn't asking for anything to be fixed on his car, so its looking like it will just be the deductable, and a couple weeks in the rental car (covered by insurance), and my car will be looking brand new.
