Default 2011 Chevrolet CORVETTE 50th Anniversary Le Mans Commemorative

Quote:
2011 Chevrolet CORVETTE 50th Anniversary Le Mans Commemorative
Two tracks loom large in Corvette racing history: Le Mans and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Although separated by a vast ocean and great differences in language and culture, these two classic circuits have played key roles in establishing Corvette's standing as a force in international sports car competition.

The 2010 American Le Mans Series Monterey marks the 50th anniversary celebration of Corvette's first appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. To celebrate this special occasion, Chevrolet has built a special Corvette Z06 for 2011 that will pay homage to the 1960 Corvette successfully raced some 50 years prior. The car will wear the same Artic White paint with two blue racing stripes and a large number “3,” but now limited to its side. Mechanically the Corvette 50th Anniversary Le Mans Commemorative car is the same as any Corvette Z06 equipped with the Z07 Performance Package.

Chevrolet is asking for an estimated $385,000 for this special one-off model. The major share—$300,000—of which will be used to help the non-profit National Corvette Museum. The rest—approximately $85,000—is for the actual car.

I'm not even thrown off by the $385k price tag, but the fact that the LeMans race with the three Corvettes was 1960, not 1961.

Really, about $300k is tax deducible. Depending on where the buyer falls within the bracket. But for many people who give to foundations, and petrol heads who do, this isn't the worst investment. I'm sure the car will never go down in value (probably will not go up for 50+ years).

I highly doubt that. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the Corvette museum isn't a 401C charitable non for profit.
