if they open up the track to club events the rest of the year, that can only help with ROI, but I'm not getting my hopes up yet for racing on the same course as F1.

in the case of the Dallas Gran Prix, it was on the fair park (or the best info I can find says it was held in fair park), which is only really used for the state fair.
Right, as in infinitely cheaper to set up a temporary course on existing pavement than build a $$texas motorsports park.

Harris Hill took several years of negotiating, permitting, and palm greasing before construction could even start, and they're not even allowed to have competitions. To have a full F1 facility and all the infrastructure it would entail, I'd imagine those wheels would have to have been turning for a while now if we're to see a race in 2 years.

Anyway, all we have to go on is the press release so I'll stop being so negative

Was this the best kept secret or what? We've heard Las Vegas, New York, New Jersey, Indianapolis (again), but Austin! WOW.

Someone in an email had info on the toll road 130 and hwy 71 intersection, which makes perfect sense right next to the airport

I'd really really like to see it happen, that's only 45 minutes away.

I hope they've got deep pockets

Tavo Hellmund, managing partner of race promoter Full Throttle Productions, said the Austin track and grandstand would be built "within 10 miles" of the Austin airport. Hellmund said the track will be at least 3 miles long. He declined to release further details, including the size of the grandstand and total cost.

Austin city officials and Texas Comptroller Susan Combs helped promoters pitch the location. Hellmund said the facility would be privately financed and will not use public money.

So, around where I posted.

There's some severe skepticism happening in the motorsports forum right now.

considering the texas state comptroller has been involved, I'd say the wheels have been likely turning for a while.

and to your point on the last post on page 1, it is full throttle promotions, not full throttle productions. maybe it was a mistake on the reporting.

one thing that is disappointing is that this likely means that any chances of a GPOH ever happening again are slim. hope you enjoyed it while it was in Houston.

EEEK, this will surely be the death of Austin and they'll pave the greenbelt to build whatever track they build, but holy ***** that's epic news.

anyway, they've got 2 years to get it done, they better start cutting the dirt in a few days, or I'm gonna grow skeptical..

I can only hope a species of bird goes extinct due to construction.

edit: if that map is of the actual location it may seem we'll get our wish
they WILL be building a track, all from private finacncing, no public money. bernie already signed the contract.

I'm looking forward to this. After going to Indy for 6 of the 7(or was it 7 outta 8) years, it'll be nice to be closer to home.

I've been missing this so much since Champ Car merged and they stopped coming to Houston.

Of course he did, he stands to make millions. Outlook not so good for Hellmund though, and like no one's ever backed out of a contract before

Like I keep saying, I'd love to see it happen but I'm skeptical because this is a ponderous undertaking for a virtually unknown and small scale promoter.

I think it was 8. I made 4 of them, but missed the rains and the great tire debacle.

I am excited for this as well! FYI, F1 will be running engines that are 1.4-1.6 liter turbo 4s by that time.

I think he meant Champ Car, which aside from having drivers that aren't as good, almost all circuits being road courses, and different technical specifications for the cars, it is the same thing.
