Default 18x9s will they fit?

Hey ya'll! I'm about to add some 18x9" wheels to my 1996 Legacy. My only concern is the tires clearing the struts. I haven't received the tires yet so I can't test fit. So before I order the drop springs, does anyone know if my tires will clear my struts? Thanks so much!

_Paul

You may have to roll the fenders to get them to work, and its a possibility the tires may rub the strut in an area. Thats pretty wide, depending on what your exact tire size is, you'll be cutting it real close.

Tires clearing the struts? You nuts, they are going to clear fine, because I'm sure those rims are going to be a +35. Your question should be, will they rub on my fenders.

Yup, they're +35. I'm planning on cutting larger arches. What size tire would I run? 225/40/18? I know a lot of folks run 245/40/18. I'm completely unknowledgeable at this stuff so I really appreciate the two answers.

This is my opinion and only my opinion. I found that 255/35-18 tires cheaper than 245/40's, so I would go that way, I know that its a good fit for your speedometer if you are compatible to the 225/45-17's sizes.

I am not sure about having to cut arches, but assume you'll have to roll your fenders, probably pull them. Post pics though, I've seen some older leggy's that look great rockin some aggressive fitments.

You're a great help Louie! Thanks. I'll throw some pics on here once they're fitted.

Your going to have to roll your fenders and camber in for sure. I did a but of rolling on a set of 18x8.5 +38 and it was minimal but this is a lot more on a stock body lego. Of course its nothing compared to the 18x9.5 +15 I am running now but I had to flare it to clear that. You won't hit the strut I know that. I can go all the way up to a 19x10.5 +32ish without hitting my strut.

Johann, you did some amazing work on that Legacy. It was fun to watch you build it. You're 100% correct, they cleared my struts just fine. I didn't have to roll the fenders just yet, once my drop spring get here I will. I ended up purchasing 225/40/18 +35. Here are some shots from my test fit.
As you can see I'll need to come up with some sort of way to cover the tire. I have some ideas but nothing concrete quite yet.
