Default '92 Legacy trans acting weird

I just purchased an A/T 1992 Legacy wagon with only 137k for a STEAL. I have plans to lift it, etc but right now I need to get it in better running condition. Changed the air filter, spark plugs, alternator/steering belt, oil and oil filter so far. I am also going to change the transmission filter and fluid soon.
It feels like it shifts weird, and when I "stomp" on the gas it doesn't GO, kinda just creeps up there. It sort of chugs and jerks and it will often die when I come to a stop. But then sometimes it drives fine, it just gets up to around 5, or 5500 when it finally shifts. Until I can get the codes pulled I am not really sure where to start looking to solve this problem. The previous owner said it drove just fine and the last time she drove it was in February '10, then it sat outside until I bought it. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

replace knock sensor in the engine.

also make sure all speed sensors are properly working; does your car have ABS? pull it and see if it drives better. ABS sucks on these cars.

but def flush the tranny good. and diff. Also pull off the rear housing of the transmission where the driveshaft bolts in and inspect.

lucas oil here also works very good, transmission slip fix, etc.

might as well also do all the repair to it

fuel filter, it's located on the driver side of the engine, simple
spark plugs, only 4.
spark plug wires.
oil filter/oil change. use a light weight oil since it's summer, more or less 5w10.
change coolant too, why not you're already there.
inspect belts, especially timing belt, pull off the cover and physically inspect.
inspect maf, clean if neccessary.
air filter if neccessary

basically do all that and see if the problem either changes, or disapears completley. it's an old car. 18 years old maybe 19 if made in 91'. def take care of the fluids.

brake fluid, eh I wouldn't bother touching it if its clear.. because the mess of having to bleed it properly.
