Default So umm, anyone watching the Indy 500?

I guess this somewhat shows how far down IndyCar has gone in the US, but is anyone else watching the race? It seems pretty good so far, but I'm not sure if they can go more than a few laps without a yellow.

I turned it on... Those cars look like toys compared to F1 cars... Gotta love Davey Hamilton's comments after he hit the wall...

From '91 to '98 I went to the 500... Kind of miss it...

Just turned it on. Watching on DVR delay.

menh im really not entertained by this at all. this type of racing is extremely silly. lots of skill to do what they do, but at the end of the day it seems to be 80% luck.

"draft" style racing blows... takes alot of judgement out of the race.

I hope the slowing down that Franchitti was doing wasn't what pushed everyone together and caused Conway to flip.

I watched. I was amazed that Dario ran laps at 220+ mph then was down at like 203 mph laps while conserving fuel. I remember along time ago in Portland Gil de Ferran was "close" on fuel so his team told him to push and open a big gap. He opened it so much he was able to pit for fuel and still win while everyone else stayed out going slow....

Thats because Portland is a road course and Indy is an oval. Its a lot easier to make a gap when your lap times are faster than the rest by seconds rather then tenths.

Conway breaks leg in huge crash

By Matt Beer Sunday, May 30th 2010, 22:48 GMT

Mike ConwayDreyer & Reinbold driver Mike Conway sustained a broken left leg in his horrific crash on the final lap of the Indianapolis 500.

Conway had been racing with Andretti Autosport's Ryan Hunter-Reay when the two cars became entangled, resulting in Conway's Dallara-Honda being launched into the air.

It hit the fencing and was torn in half, with the cockpit section landing upside down on the racetrack.

Conway was flown straight to Indianapolis' Methodist Hospital, with the IndyCar safety team fearing delays in traffic if he was transported by road just as the race was finishing, and has now been diagnosed with a broken leg.

Prior to the incident, Conway had looked set for a top ten finish, having briefly led while trying an alternate fuel strategy.

you know whats interesting? They penalized drivers who passed improperly during the caution by moving them back to their original order.

That is far more civil a penalty than what the FIA imposes.

Quote:
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Marco Andretti earned his first podium finish of the season at Sunday's Indy 500 following an extensive video review that showed three cars illegally passed the 23-year-old under caution in the race's final yards.

The unofficial results showed Andretti finished sixth behind winner Dario Franchitti. He was moved up to third more than two hours after the race when IndyCar officials ruled Alex Lloyd, Scott Dixon and Danica Patrick did not have the right to pass Andretti as the field strolled to the finish.

Alex Lloyd moved down one spot to fourth. Scott Dixon moved from fourth to fifth, and Danica Patrick dropped from fifth to sixth after the league nullified the passes they made after the caution flag came out on Lap 199.
