Default SPEC B axle part numbers

History: 03 WRX with a 6spd and R160 open rear diff

After a day at the track, the open diff is just not going to cut it. I knew this was going to be a problem, but I thought I would try it first.

Solution: R180 from an STI and the Legacy Spec B rear axles.

Problem: I have two part numbers:

First one is from here, courtesy of a few individuals; 28421AG03b

Second one is what the dealership thinks is the #: 28491AG03b

The dealership looked up both, and they are described in the exact same way for the same vehicle. The difference so far is about $100 a piece..CHEAPER????
The cheaper one being the dealership looked up part number.

Can anyone clarify? I would like to think we could use the Second one. A call is going out tomorrow to Subaru to see what is up.

Have you checked the length on the Spec B axles? I remember a thread on here about how they were too long to work on an Impreza...

You must pull the outer CV joint off of the spec B axles and swap them with the outer CV joint from some WRX axles and you'll be in business. It was done recently with awesome results.

According to our computer, the 28491AG03B is just the shaft and boot repair kit
The axle shaft assembly is the 28421AG03B

Why was this moved to WTB as well as a bunch of other threads with part # requests?

I found out the same thing via the local dealership. SOA said it was bad cataloging description. Thanks for the info as well.
