Default Formula 1 2010: Canada

Back to Canada, have they fixed the surface in the hairpin? I started this early because I was genuinely tired of the Turkey thread. Red bull's aero advantage shouldn't be as important here. F-duct could be massively important.

Agreed. Comming out of 10 they can get a good fast run up to 12.

I'll be there, got tickets for turn 2. Anyone else going?

I'm sure Red Bull will be running it, its the only way that McLaren was close...but I'm not sure if they were having issues with it engaging incorrectly or at the wrong time.s

I was unaware ESPN even covered F1. I'm being facetious

I wouldn't count on them for a source of F1 news.

I think they used to be f1-live.com. They still have the redirect going on. ESPN bought them or something like that. I don't remember how reliable f1-live used to be.

Question Best Grandstands

I'm considering going to this GP next year, or in 2012.

What are the best grandstands?

I'm guessing turn 2, and down at the hairpin.

Between T2 and the hairpin, my inclination is the hairpin, and GS 15 there.

If you've been to this GP, what have you learned about which grandstands are better?

F1 live wasn't super reliable. The last few things I remember they broke were proven incorrect.

Whatever you do, don't do GA.

Attended my first F1 race in Montreal in 1993. Senna was brilliant, qualifying 8th and was 4th after about 3 laps. Took both Berger and Alesi in their Ferrari V12's right in front of us at the hairpin on successive laps. There was a young driver in about his 6th GP named Rubens Barrichello there, along with Michael Andretti, Schumacher, Johnny Herbert, etc. I think Jacques Villeneuve was driving Formula Atlantics then in a support race

Great city. Great venue.

There were V8's, V10's and V12's in the field and the different sounds were awesome. Those Ferrari 12's were eardrum-blowing.

Always sat in Stand 21 with a bunch of crazies from Montreal. If you look under the stands there, you will see remnants of my lost brain cells that were replaced with Labatts and Molson.

Have fun

I know they want to keep cost down, but I miss the more open regulations. It's amazing how much different engines can sound even in today's spec, I can only imagine the aural porn this must have been. Saying the sound isn't captured accurately on TV is a huge understatement.

My wife and I will be sitting at turn 6. When we were at Silverstone the cameraman did one of the crowd sweeps and focused in on my wife. In case lightening strikes twice, I'm setting one of the VCR's for the race and telling the house sitters to not touch it.

If they set a "you can spend 20 mil pounds on engines every year" they could open up the engine dev, but as it is, they'll probably be going to turbos in a few years, so it will be back to I4/6 soon.

Direct injected 4cyl turbos, really they need to go that direction. Hopefully they allow variable inlet/exhaust geometry. Or as I like to call it 1.5 litres of badass. I wouldn't be surprised if, assuming it's legal, someone tries to make a flat four.

^^^ More likely they'd take a 4 cyl and just lay it on it's side. Only one head to deal with, shorter exhaust runners to the turbo...

You're probably right, but it makes me think about flat 12's and that a good thing.

They ran the V6 turbos normally, and I was incorrect earlier in saying inline, I doubt they would ever run an inline engine in an F1 car.

According to the official F1 site, they say that the Red Bulls will have it on for Canada: http://www.formula1.com/news/technic...0/830/757.html

Honestly, F1 is so cat 'n' mouse you don't know what to believe really. Red Bull won't tell anyone for sure what they plan on doing. I am almost positive they will be running an F-duct system for at least the practice sessions. Then, depending on times they'll decide if they want to really use it for the race. It looks like they have the same set-up that Ferrari and Sauber used to have with using the driver's left hand to cover up the hole in the cockpit. This is not the best way to do it because the driver has to take his hands off the wheel to do it.

The Formula1.com story is dated May 30 (last Sunday), while the ESPNF1 story is dated June 2 (Wednesday), and quotes Marko as to why RB decided not bring it to Montreal.

Which cars (Macs, RBs, etc.) are more well suited to this circuit?

McLaren will have a great chance of winning here. High speed track with a few opportunities for F-duct use that will give them a big top speed advantage over RBR, Ferrari and Mercedes.
