Default Need Help 06 legacy 2.5i problem

My gfs subaru is a 06 legacy 2.5i auto with around 40k miles. She bought it with 31k and the only service that has been done since then is I change the oil every 3k. Only Mods are a K&N drop in that has been in for 5k miles and it has the hogzaust b/c she saw it on youtube so I did it for her. This was done about 2 months ago. (She is saving money to get real exhaust)

I was driving it the other night and it seemed sluggish when getting on it. I put some lucas fuel cleaner in it thinking that might help. Today she was driving it and it stalled on her when she was sitting at a red light. No codes and half tank of gas.

Any suggestions on what to do?

I'm thinking she might have got some bad gas but she always gets gas at exxon and runs 89.

Another thing i thought might need replaced is the spark plugs. I did my plugs on my wrx and they are not that easy to get to. Plus subaru says the plugs are good until 60k.

Going to need more info.
5 speed or 4eat?
How many times has this occurred?
Has it always stalled when stopped at a light?
Have you checked the air filter to make sure it doesn't have too much oil?

Sorry its the 4eat that might have helped if i listed it above.
It has never done this before.
The air filter does not have to much oil since it came right out of the package from K&N and I have never re-oiled it. But I might check out the MAF and see if it is dirty.

Check MAF, plugs (like you stated just in case) and make sure the coil packs are secured correctly (along with the connector being secure). Another thing may be the IAS? Not sure if they go bad with Legacy's but that's just a thought. Could possible be an alternator too... there are a lot of things that could do it... along with fuel pressure and whatnot. Good luck.

The 2.5i plugs should be changed at 30k, and they are much easier to get to than the plugs on the turbo models.

06 Has no IAS. DBW cars use the throttle plate to control idle. I would say you probably have a front 02 sensor going bad. This may not throw a code until the sensor gets bad enough for the ECU to pick it up. You could try unplugging it (this will set a code) and see if the conditions improve. You should do this while the problem is happening to verify if it fixes it.

i bet that the k&n filter caused oil to get on the maf. K&N filters do come over oiled right out of the package. Get some maf cleaner from the parts store and removed the maf and clean it. make sure it is completely dry before reinstalling. If that fixes it the remove the K&N get a recharge kit and clean it and very lightly reoil it. by lightly i mean just a very light fine mist not soaked like they come out of the box.

The book says they should, but they are platinum and can go to 60k. I doubt that is what is causing his issue.

I cleaned the MAF last night and reset the ecu then took it for a drive. It seemed to be running strong once again.

Thanks for the help guys
