Default My first TURBO car. Is this normal?

Hi guys; I was wondering about the behavior of my 07' STI Limited car. It's bone stock exept a K&N air filter. When I accelerate hard; it seems that right as the turbo starts to kick in; there is 2 distinct pops of power as if I had "double stepped" the accelerator pedal. At first I thought it was the tires breaking loose on a wet road; but it does the same on a dry road. I have also noticed just today while back out of my garage, that it may have a front right CV joint going out. (Clicking while turning) Any ideas?

sounds like something is slipping, possibly your cv joints as you say it sound like they may be going out.
your car should pull much harder once the turbo kicks in but it should be a rather smooth progression and not like a"pop"
seeing as your car is stock im willing to bet its your cv joints or another mechanical issue since your stil running your stock conservative map

As for the jerkiness of acceleration, it is probably the crappy stock ECU tune. My 06 wrx had jerky acceleration until I got it tuned... now the powerband is relatively smooth.

ditch the K/N, clean your MAF sensor and start from there. that filter will only compound problems and get the insides of your engine quite dirty. A paper type air filter really is not a restriction unless you increase engine output and there are dry foam type filters that are the best compromise between catching dirt and flowing air if you have to have an after market filter.

You have some good tuners in Oregon! I'd recommend taking the car in and having it tuned. Not only can you insure that your new pride and joy is running right but you can also gain a nice bump in power!
