We had a place here called Central Park that had a dual drive up.
The building was like 12ft x 12ft with a drive up window on the north and south side.

The food was not good.

Holy nuts, that burger is over half fat!

I still remember when McDonalds increased their straw diameter so people could suck HFCS into their faces faster.

Yeah, the local mcdonalds where I live has the dualing drive through lanes. I actually worked at that McDonalds when I was in high school, however I haven't stepped in that building in 5 years.

Also, all this talk about mcdonalds makes me want a mcdouble...

In theory, the double order drive-thru should make things faster, and give patrons more time to make their decision from the menu while the other person is ordering.

In reality, you have to wait just as long as you used to, plus you have to merge with idiot drivers, and then when you finally get to the payment window, you have to reiterate your order because the person at the register has to check to make sure the cars didn't get out of sequence.

Really, if you want to increase efficiency, you need to be able to go to the McDonald's website, punch in your order and get a bar-code to print out (or display on your smart phone) that represents your order. Then you just scan your code at a kiosk in the line, swipe your debt card, and pull forward to the window to pick up your food. After all, how many people order a completely different meal every time they go to McDonalds? I know I've been ordering the same thing there since around 1992.

I should patent this idea... too bad it won't catch on until smart phones are so common even the poor have them.

Yeah if you eat it every day but again its not ****ty food. Anything can be bad for you if not taken in moderation.

you're just going out of your way to sound foolish now.

you can't take something "in moderation" when it contains megadoses of sodium & fat.
"moderation" would dictate avoiding this like the plague.
unless you're taking 3 or 4 days to eat one, it's hard to pass off a "sandwich" that has 90% of the daily amount of saturated fat, almost 70% of the day's fat amount, and nearly half of the day's sodium and cholesterol as anything other than ****ty.

from a nutritional standpoint, it is a disaster.
in fact, it does the word "food" a disservice to be associated w/ this.

now, if you want to take the approach of "I know it's a nutritional black hole but it tastes so good", fine.
then there's at least hope you'll grow out of it.

Not a bad idea actually. But I would see if you could link your debit card to the barcode. Then you drive up to the order box, scan the bar code, and you're all set.

This as well. Multiple places in TX have that same setup to get through peak-time easier.

I thought of that too... but the idea of having someone else able to charge their meals to my card because they just re-ran the last print job on the printer is scary. I guess if the bar-codes were one-time use and the meal was pre-paid on the website... but the whole point would be to be able to print out a sheet of paper with 5 or 6 of your favorite orders on it and just keep it in the car.

Chick-fil-a has had dual-drive-thrus for awhile now. It goes the same way, so you have to be on the passenger side to reach and order.

You could have 20 drive-thru lanes and the wait would be insignificantly shorter. Unless you also have 20 order-takers and 20 burger-flippers.

Even then, the wait is never for the "#2, Coke"; it's for the "#2, hold the special sauce, extra pickles, wait... no pickles, wait... yeah, pickles but just the ordinary amount, diet Coke with no ice, super-size it. And a #6 with extra BBQ sauce. What? OK, I'll pay extra for it. Dr. Pepper. And a Oompa Loompa Delux with extra meat, no relish, no mayo, extra ketchup, medium well, onion rings, extra large Sprite. And an order of that item that no one ever orders so you have to go out back and slaughter the ostrich, butcher it and cook it while everyone behind me has their order either get cold or dry out from the heat lamps. Extra sauce on that too." And then they take 20 minutes to count out the cash, fork it over, then transfer the food, carefully distributing it around the car before pulling out of the way, making sure little Tad-Bo has his bib on.

C/N: The entire drive-thru paradigm is thrown for a loop by screw-up customers.

But aside from their fries, McDonalds doesn't even have that going for it.

Actually, I take that back. Their coffee has also gotten much better lately since they switched to Green Mountain, at least in New England.

So the coffee and fries taste good, and the coffee at least won't cause you diabetes or a heart attack (at least, assuming "normal" amounts of sugar and milk are added).

The rest though... <shudders>

Of course it could be worse. At Burger King even the salads have scary levels of fat and sugar.

Same problem with the dual DT McDonald's in southern IL. If I'm in the 'regular' DT lane's order station, I let someone who was already in the other lane's order station go ahead of me in line, but if some jerkoff pulls up after me and tries to get in line I won't let him in.
