Default What's leaking here?

'98 EJ22E 90K miles

I noticed something leaking a good bit today underneath the engine. I think it's possibly the rear main seal. The first pic shows a good amount of oil coming from the rear of the engine where it meets the transmission. It drips down to the headers and on the floor a little. The car has been sitting about a week. The second and third pictures show some wetness in the area of the headgaskets, but I don't think it's from that. It's not bad at all compared to the wetness on the first pic.

Sooooo, from my bad pictures, any idea what's wrong or should be alarmed? I'm getting the timing belt replaced ASAP since it's due by a shop (interference engine, not messing with it).... unrelated info, but if anything else needs done, it's the time to do it.

It may be the breather that is behind the passenger intake runners. It has a thick rubber pipe that leads to your pcv. I had a bad leak on my 98 RS EJ25D motor and that fixed it. The rubber hose was cracked.

The underside of my EJ25-equipped car looks like that, I've got a leak on the driver's side of the oil pan.

Start with valve cover gaskets and go from there. They are the easiest and do wear out over time.

Just to give a little update (even though it's been like the whole summer)... it was the CV joint and it was grease not oil. I'm a noob

But yeah, learned a thing or two while changing it, and what to look for with commonly torn boots.

Well, glad it wasn't anything major! Any time I see leaks or puddles under a car I think "Oh crap."
