Default Comparing two CBEs

Alright i've got my 2007 2.5i that I'm probably going to do exhaust on an then move to suspension mods. The two I've been looking at so far are these:

http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop...wer-p-261.html

http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop...ust-p-183.html

Any feedback on these systems?

First of all will they fit the 2.5i? Any fitment issues? (I plan to bolt it on in my garage myself)

Do they have any negative impacts as far as throwing CELs or pissing off the car?

Thanks for your input.

WRX CBE's will "fit" the 2.5i in the sence that all of the hanger spots are correct. However when you have the CBE hung on the car you will find that the cat pipe and the CBE won't meet up (there will be a 4-5" gap bettween the 2). You will neet to have the CBE extended by either an extention tube with clamps or have an exhaust shop weld one in. I had the same issue with my Ingen SES exhaust and ended up having the shop do it for a cleaner fitment.
If I were to do it again, I would have probably had a magnaflow system installed. Wide open exhausts sound bad a$$ when your going around town but get pretty obnoxious when on long trips on the highway. The other thing with an open exhaust is that you loose alot of back pressure. Some backpressure is necsssary to maintain consistant exhaust flow.
The only time my system threw a CEL was when I was driving 7 hours and had to use an exhaust silencer for my dog's sake (it makes alot of really low frequencey resonance otherwise...not good for dogs sensitive ears). It was because the silencer made too much backpressure and threw a catalyst CEL. That said....depending on the system, if you alter the exhaust flow enough, you may throw an emission CEL here and there because the pre and post O2 sensors are suddenly reading something outside what the factory said was ok.

Thanks for the response. My Impreza is basically only an around town car as we have an '09 Forester for when we pack up the kids and take trips. I'm really leaning towards the HKS exhaust and if I can find an extender pipe I may very well be ordering it at some point.

Since everything from the header to the cat is to remain stock, there wont be that much loss in back pressure I thought. I'm just trying to lightly modify this car as I'd like it to last awhile, but I'd like to have a little more fun with it.

If that's your main goal, I would highly recomend diving into suspension work then. For the money that you're going to toss into the CBE, a rear swaybar kit + endlinks + master brake cylender brace will yield results that you can actually feel. On a bone stock EJ253 motor, an exhaust alone will really do nothing more than make noise. I honestly wouldn't spend $ on bolt-on power mods unless you plan on haveing the ECU tuned for them and you plan on doing engine work (cams, valvesprings, pistons, stroker kits, ect). I actually just installed a Perrin 22mm rear bar kit and new endlinks. The car is so much more fun to drive now!

Thats the main reason I want to do the Exhaust. I have a real d*ckhead neighbor that needs a taste of his own medicine. I dont expect it to do much for performance, lol.

I will take into consideration the suspension upgrades though, as I was planning on having an alignment check done here soon anyway.

hahaha awesome. Just make sure your exhaust doesnt sound like an obnoxious fart-can. The EL headers on our cars dont produce the growl like a UEL wrx does. Rumor has it that bolt on UEL headers are in the works for our cars. Pick up a set of thoes and and then you'll be cooking with gas!

well the HKS exhaust has a sample vid, it is of course on a WRX. Do you think it would sound like a fart can on the 2.5i?

http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop...hkshipower.wmv

I just want it to sound nice, and not ricey, but be loud enough to make my neighbor go wtf?.

Just to let you know, i have a turbo xs standard axleback for sale that came off my car. Mated to the correct UEL setup, she's deep loud and very burbly, I am heading back towards OEM setup after having the UEL setup for about 6 months.

I am totally catless and the UEL setup was just to loud and annoying in stop and go traffic, me being catless just added to the problem, but the turbo xs mated to the OEM centerpipe, with UEL's and a trackpipe, you will def give him a taste of his own medicine. That I can assure you LOL! Setting of alarms a block or so away was fun for a while.

The turbo XS will 100% bolt right up to your stock OEM centerpipe, the header and trackpipe or catpipe, that's up to you

I was by far deeper and louder and just as burbly as the turbo buddies on my local board.

If you are on a tight budget, just look in the F/S section on both nasioc and rs25.com, just be a smart shopper and don't jump on parts strictly cause they look good. Asking questions about mileage and such will help you to avoid the problematic parts, some of which I ran into from time to time myself with stromung parts

I appreciate the offer, but I dont want super loud. And for double what you're asking for the used axleback I can have a brand new cat-back. And I'm actually looking at getting the HKS system for about $400 from some rally guys here in town. Plus chances are if I did purchase it, the shipping company would probably F it in the A by the time it came across the country to me anyhow.

We can already put UEL headers on our car. You just need the HFC and a spot for the o2 sensor to go.

Well it turns out theres a guy in my local chapter selling the HKS unit for a pretty damn good price. Will probably pick it up. If it ends up sounding like **** I'll just get some UELs down the road.
