Default Dumb tire question

Tried searching and the sticky.. maybe I just missed this.

I have an 03 Legacy L se 5-speed sedan. It came equipped with 205/55R16's. It will be time for new tires soon enough and I want 225/50R16's over the stock size. I know these are for all intents and purposes the exact same size (in terms of overall diameter) but should I be worried about rubbing at all?

Thanks in advance and hopefully this isn't completely retarded.

While I agree that he will be fine, you do realize that a 2000 Outback and a 2000 Legacy don't have the same suspension or ride height, right?

yes, believe me. i know.

the ride height doesn't matter since he isn't going with larger diameter. he is actually .02" smaller in overall diameter and only gains .78" in width with the 225's.

the main suspension components r the same, I.E. links, control arms, shocks. the height difference between the legacy and outback is in the spring and body spacers that r in the outback. i have a full set of coilovers on my car which lowered it to regular legacy height or slightly lower, but not ricer lower. my tires fit just fine.

The overwhelming majority of tire rub on Subarus (and probably just about car, frankly) is due to the wider tires coming into contact with the fender lips. That clearance becomes more of an issue if the car has been lowered. So ride height absolutely does matter.

Uhhhh... OK? Not sure what that has to do with the price of tea in China.
