not so much as your thinking that i know of.... but if you get a vid card with an rca out you can just run all the vid to the lcd. then you can use winamp

check out www.northursalia.com

he has a howto in his mods section on how to put an lcd screen in the visor.

yes there is. do a goggle search for: mike lynch winamp lcd

you should get a site called car mp3 project or something of that nature. download the winamp plugin, and configure the .INI file to your likeing, or email me and i will send you my ini file.

then you need to build the display. i got my display of eio.com for about 20 bucks, but the prices vary. what you want is any size lcd, mine is a 40x4, with an HD7..... series controller. then wire it up to your paralell port with a hacked printer cable.

there is tons of info, some you can get to from mike lynches site. if you want to just buy one, try matrixorbital.com

they are pricy though...

If your thinking about putting a computer in your car I would recomend finding some way to clean up the power. Its really nasty. If you get one of them cigarette lighter ac-dc converters you will get really dirty power. It will mess with your sound card and just generaly be unplesant. I have seen a lot of people put a small UPS in the car to help fix this problem.

Good luck though! I would love to see pictures when you get it done.

There are some computer power supplys that run off of 12 volts. I haven't seen one for a while, but they're out there - somewhere. I honestly can't see any reason for them to exsist except for use in cars - and that seems like a nearly non exsistent market... Anyways, they exsist, and are rather pricey as I recall.

if you do go this route look for a "switching" power supply. these have power conditioners in them. i once hacked a laptop mother board and put it in the door panel (prolly not the best place for it but i was just trying it out). the laptop mom board is cool cause i kept it using the stock battery... so basically i was just keeping the batter topped off!

i used it to run a full blown version of winamp for tunes and a GPS hooked up for nav. was cool but a lil clugey

If you can somehow find a RioCar / empeg head unit for sale, they are, IMHO one of the best solutions for digital audio (MP3s, WMAs or WAVs) in your car. I'm pretty sure they stopped making them though, so good luck finding one used.

Or build your own with one of these...

http://www.nexcom.com/product/ebc/

Most of the boards come w/LCD panel support already.

I would advise using a laptop hard drive as well. You need an adapter since laptop harddrives only have one plug that have both the IDE interface and the power in it... But, if you do use a regular hard drive, make sure to dampen it somehow. All that shaking would kill a normal hard drive fairly quickly methinks. I know you cat get cages that fit in 5 1/2" drive bays that hold hard disks - they are designed to quite your hard drive but they should also do a good job of protecting it. If you are cheap you could just wrap it in a whole lot of really soft foam.
