Hmm, didn't see that on the first watch of that trailer, but you have a point.

VERY MINOR SPOILER. SERIOUSLY, IT'S LIKE IT'S NOT EVEN A SPOILER.
That character is probably going to have all of 5 minutes of screen time (depending on how long the intro scene is) the entire season. He is one of the most minor characters in the entire series and dies within the first actual chapter.

And a link to HBO'S long-form preview:

The series is good, right up until the last book, which was weak, but here's hoping whenever he finishes the next one it will turn up again.

I'm hoping HBO doesn't disappoint with this one. I don't think they will. Their preview showed them filming on two different continents for various portions so the budget is there.

In for incestuous love scenes.

As a self proclaimed "uber fan" I definitely have my qualms about what I've seen in the previews, but also I'm excited to see the story brought to a larger audience. Their budget is definitely there and the best part about it is that GRRM has actual power in the production process. I wrote him a letter when this was first announced asking him not to let it turn into the steaming pile of crap that was "Legend of the Seeker." He has re-iterated time and again that he is very involved in the filming and the story.

Judging by his Not a Blog posts he is happy with what is going on with the series.

Check it out, 11 minute "making of" vid with a lot of clips and the cast/creators talking about the show.

Dany is hot as **** and seems like a pretty cool chick too.

Yep, and for someone who is as picky about his IP as Martin, I take that as a good sign.

I really don't like the look of the actor playing John though, I always pictured him as much more gaunt. I'll wait to make a final judgment until the show starts.

But why oh why couldn't they have also dyed her eyebrows? She's supposed to have "silver" hair, yet they leave dark brown earthworms up there. It looks like they may have some make-up on them when they're actually shooting, but it seems like a definite case of the carpet (and the... sheets?) not matching the drapes.

*I reserve the right to criticize the hell out of the television series until it actually comes out. I did the same thing with the LOTR until I saw the first movie and all my fears came to naught.

SERIOUS SPOILERS THIS TIME! IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS DO NOT CONTINUE READING!

I think it was pretty clever of HBO to cast relatively big-name actors, or at least recognizable faces, that they only have to pay for the first season. After they've hooked the audience after the first season, they get to cut their cast budget by a huge margin. Bean will go out within the first 3/4 of the series. Addy shortly before that. Momoa is gone after the first season. Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage are the only ones that could demand even slightly higher payroll for years to come. Almost everyone else is new to big-budget film/television, and I think that's a good thing.

Hmmm book 1 could easily fill 2 seaons (or 20-ish episodes) IMHO. Excited for sure though!

Agreed, but even 1 season per book is better than smushing everything into a single movie. TV is the only way this series can be done well.

Read the books. Seriously. IMO it's the best work of fiction/fantasy since The Lord of the Rings. Some might say that Jordan's Wheel of Time is better, but I disagree. A Song of Ice and Fire is fiction for adults.

Production value looks more Xena than LotR

To some extent I agree with you. Quite a few of the shots in the trailers (especially the long-form) don't seem to have gone through much if any post-production yet, and I'm hoping that will improve the look.

The biggest difference between this show and Xena/Hercules/Legend of the Seeker is that there is an actual storyline and every single episode will be coming straight from the books.

It's about as fact based as the fantasy genre gets. There's basically no magic to speak of and all of the main protagonists are humans living in a very medieval-esque world.

In terms of looking like a cheap LOTR...it IS a TV show. Movies have much higher budgets for Fx, sets and so on so it's to be expected. The nice thing about GOT is that it's not all about the battles so they won't have to expend copious $$ producing those at the expense of something else.

Hummm...I don't know. The set pieces look great. But the costumes look REALLY weak. I'm not buying the casting either (or maybe it goes back to the costumes?). Still excited about it, but it does look more "thrifty" Xena than I would've liked.

This is something I'm VERY worried about, but we haven't seen many actual post-production shots yet. The casting (except for one character: John) seems pretty much spot on.

I am a HUGE fan of this series and absolutely want it to succeed. They have a much bigger budget than "Spartacus" did, but also have a much larger and more expensive cast. Also, many of the characters in the book cannot be translated with real actors. Case in point: The Clegane brothers. The younger is supposed to be near 7' and his brother is supposed to be the "biggest man ever" or in other words a fighting man above 8'. They got as close as they could with real world actors and cast a 6'6" actor as the Hound and a 7'1" actor as the Mountain.

This series has one of the best scripts (which has been leaked) ever. It also has the original author controlling the IP and dictating what goes out the door.

I currently don't like where the television series is going from what I've seen in the previews but I still have hope. The production quality just doesn't seem to be there and some of the actors seem to be a bit off. Dinklage is one of the only actors that I think is PERFECT for his role and seems to be taking it absolutely seriously.

To put it into perspective, I know as much about this series as r0bman knows about Star Wars and care about it just as much. Seriously, ask me anything.

Hah! It's been a long long time since I've read the books and so my memory is very hazy. However, isn't the chick Lannister (Cersei?) supposed to be smoking hot and just as devious? The actress they found just doesn't fit the bill IMHO. The English chick from season 2 Dexeter would've been a much better fit - ironically enough I think she's in the Spartacus prequel.

And the brother/sister from across the sea...they both look so out of place and clumsy. Still you are right, a lot of those shots are not post-production. I'm definitely excited - I guess I really want the book(s) done justice (as much as I hate Feast of Crows and the length of time between books, I still absolutely love books 1-3).

new trailer released tonight or in the past couple days anyway. Pretty much an extended version of the Iron Throne trailer with a few shots from the episodes included. Up on the hbo site. We're getting closer!

Its being good to watch movies online rather those stupid tv shows. Earlier I started with The Wire television series being broadcast by HBO. It is so boring that I can hardly continue until next season. So for a change I just turn onto True Blood.
