Default Mystery alert! bizarre dome light issues.

Hey Everyone heres the situation:

05 Forester
Automatic
80,000 km
non turbo fully loaded.

The issue is that the "door ajar" light on the gauge cluster stays on ALL THE TIME. it wont turn off. even when the car is parked in the garage and the key is out of the ignition. it is bizzare because the dome light works perfectly. it functions properly when each door is opened.

*other than removing the bulb* does anyone have any idea how to fix this? or what could even be causing it? does anyone have a wiring diagram for the gauge cluster door ajar light circuit?

Thanks!

Sounds like you have a short in the cluster wiring harness. Pull the cluster and start looking behind there. You may also need to get a hold of the service manual and diagram to start troubleshooting where the short is if it isn't obvious.

Did you install or change something in your car recently?

nope. its bone stock. not a single mod.

ill check behind the cluster. ive heard of rodents getting into the engine bay because its warm. they chew up wires and hoses etc. i doubt it could get into the car though.

I'm not sure but the door indicator light may be a LED and not a bulb. If there is a indicator for each door I suggest you check the wiring that door and the switch to it. There could also be a problem with the driver board in the cluster that controls the lamp. Hopefully that isn't the case.

ahh, its only one light i think. has anyone else had this problem before? ill try to post a picture of the cluster with the light on. i was thinking of removing each door switch individually and seeing if the light turns off. hopefully by unplugging the switch it will open the circuit and we will find a broken switch that is stuck "on" or something. wouldnt that be a nice simple fix haha

The door switch is not likely to be the problem since you stated that the dome light functions normally. It's worth a try, but I really don't think that is the issue. Don't forget about the rear hatch, it should be on the same circuit and the switch is in the latch assembly.
