Default EJ22E compatibility issues

A friend of mine got a rod knock in his MY00 OBS, 5MT a few weeks ago.

He was able to find a earlier EJ22E from a 93 Legacy for very cheap but there's a lot different between the two engines. So my question is what are the options for making this engine fit into the OBS?

I'm not with the car, been actually trying to help him via phone and text/picture messages. As far as I can tell, the heads and bellhousing are different but how can I get past these obsticals without replacing the tranny?

phase 1 and 2 motors will not interchange, so you will have to either make a plate to adapt the intake to the old heads, or rewire the car.

Making a plate is the only viable option.

gotcha. Kinda had a feeling about that but I tend to deal with the early EJ motors and my older EA/ER motors.
