Default OK need some help!

Well I've been reading all the FAQ's and all the other info that I can but just don't know a whole lot about turbos. Here is the thing I want to go forced induction but it needs to be very reliable. I want it to be quick but safe. I love that BOV sound!! I also want to beat all of my friends supercharged Si's. So basically which type/kit should I go with and does it come with everything I need? I have a 2001 2.5RS. Or should I just sell it and get a WRX? Like I said I have searched and read a few posts but I want someone to just lay it all out here for me. Thanks! Also if anyone has any hp or 1/4 mile times with these kits let me know. Thanks in advance.

Eric

Oh lord... where to begin.... You want Trubo and reliable, then get a WRX unless you want to spend a ton of time learning and a ton of money on your car.

For more information on turbo's themself, How things work .

I know your going to get flamed up here pretty bad... And there is nothing I can do to stop it....

People that want to flame shouldn't post here anyway but I know that there are many A$$HOLES that will. Oh well. I know how turbos work and all but just don't know which kits are reliable, if any, for the 2.5RS. I've been reading about weak pistons and rods and that would suck to have to build up the engine. I know how expensive that can be. Well it seems more and more that the WRX would be safer for me to get but any info would be good. Thanks!!

I didn't and don't want to sound rude. Just wanted to ensure that you knew what you were getting into....

Kits
Forced Air Tech
Ludespeed
Vishnu Performance

I'm not going to take any further time on this, as there is sooo much information in the Sticky FAQ.... Including the ever awesome, Things to figure out before picking parts for your turbo project

Thanks for the help Kastle. BTW does the Vishnu site have the kits for the 2.5? I could only find the WRX upgrades. Thanks! Ludespeed sounds pretty good also, anyone know how reliable it is? Thanks again!

Here I go, posting against my better judgement ... There are many, many satisfied customers of both Ludespeed and FAT... The kits are very similar and both companies offer excellent customer service.

I happen to have a FAT stage II kit on my RS-T(rannyless) car, and love it. Many people feel the same way about their Ludespeed kits (and FAT as well).

White01,

I got some cold hard facts for ya to look over. These are figures that I spent and you should consider.

1. Ludespeed Stage 2 turbo kit....................................$3000.00
2. Clutch & Flywheel to handle gobs of new power......$ 750.00
3. Boost, EGT, Oil temp, Fuel Pressure gauges etc.......$ 450.00
4. Misc parts for turbo install........................................$ 175.00
5. Flat bed charge after blowing up piston #4.............$ 100.00
6. Forged pistons, rods, crank, o-rings head work.......$3300.00
7. Vishnu TEC 3 PEMS (stand alone ECU).....................$2800.00
8. STi motor and tranny mounts...................................$ 200.00
9. More misc parts etc............................................... ...$ 100.00
10. Labor for everything so far including breakdown.....$1700.00
11. Estimated labor for TEC 3 and Motor re-install.........$1000.00

Grand Total for all so far............................................... $13575.00

I don't want to pop your bubble but to make it safe and cheap is a farce. It doesn't work that way. I priced out what it would cost for a swap after I smoked my motor and it would be about 6-7000 bucks. It would be cheaper to get a swap done than go though what I did. However, if you get rid of your 01 RS and get a WRX then you have what everyone else already has. No uniqueness to it all. So, I say go for a WRX motor swap into your RS or build her up like I did. Just remember, get a PEMS and do it right. I didn't and I am paying the price for it right now. In the end, my car will be a true beast and that makes me happy. Good luck...

Paul...

P.S. Do I feel stupid for spending this much money for more horsepower for my car? Well, I would have to say yes. But what can I say, I am addicted to my car, I love it and I want it to stay different. Shame on me. How could you do this to your self, bad boy...
