Default Manute Bol, deceased.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...ug=ap-obit-bol

Quote:
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Manute Bol, a lithe 7-foot-7 shot-blocker from Sudan who spent 10 seasons in the NBA and was dedicated to humanitarian work in Africa, died Saturday. He was 47.

Bol died at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, where he was being treated for severe kidney trouble and a painful skin condition, Tom Prichard, executive director of the group Sudan Sunrise, said in an e-mail.

“Sudan and the world have lost a hero and an example for all of us,” Prichard said. “Manute, we’ll miss you. Our prayers and best wishes go out to all his family, and all who mourn his loss.”

Sad, but did you know Great Danes have the shortest life span of all dog breeds?

R.I.P. Manute. I'll always remember your two-handed, overhead, three-point shots.

Damn, he was a great human being, I remember when he played for DC back int he day, my first game seeing him play. He came out on the floor and the place went crazy, people chanting his name, got so loud I at first thought they were booing him!

RIP Manute

I remember having a Manute Bol NBA highlights VHS. It had some terrible old rap about Manute on it. I wonder if it's on YouTube.

HOLY CRAP! I ACTUALLY FOUND IT! HAHAHA!

I haven't seen that in 20 years. How the hell did I remember that? hahaha. It was so bad that it permanently carved itself into my brain!

IIRC he attended University of Bridgeport (thnk it was him, pretty sure) & my ex treated him - she was a physical therapist/massage therapist.

She said he was one of the nicest people she ever worked on. So no jokes on his behalf, from me. RIP, Manute Bol.

Freakish size and limited athleticism aside, this is a professional athlete who after his playing career will be best remembered for his activism to help people in his homeland, Sudan.

He was so cool and freaky looking. If you've ever wondered what he'd look like with mass, Google Kenny George.

If he was we should erect a 7-foot-7 statue in his honor.

Quote:
The phrase didn't come into widespread use until years later when used frequently in films and other pop culture outlets. However, the first recorded use of "my bad" seems to be Manute Bol, who apparently "invented" the phrase in the 1980's. Bol, a Sudanese whose native language is Dinka would say "my bad" when making a bad pass. The phrase was adopted by most of his teammates when he played for the Golden State warriors in the late '80's. Eventually other players picked up the phrase, which eventually spread to pick-up urban basketball lingo, and from there into ever more widespread usage.
