Default OBX CB exhaust for 08+ hatch, pics of install and videos to come!

I purchased the obx-r catback exhaust on ebay for 285$ shipped. Its 2.5" all the way with a 3" tip, stainless steel, follows same path of stock exhaust. My opinion is that it is a nice sounding system, but pretty quiet. To me it sort of has that sound of a stock infiniti g35. No rasp whatsoever, maybe it will get louder when it breaks in but right now its pretty quiet. It bolted right up to stock system just had to remove or pound out one heatshield. It sticks out kind of far from the back bumper, but I dont think theres a solution. But this is a nice quiet system for the price, and it felt like it reduced the hesitation to accelerate on my car, otherwise I didnt notice much of a difference. Ill have video clips soon!!!

Seems like there's enough space after that final 90* bend that an exhaust shop could cut off the tip, take out about 1.5-2", and weld it back on.

That stock exhaust looks like it's about the diameter of a pencil!

how's the weight compared to the stock? Guess that's one way to advertise with the tip sticking out that far.

Not nearly as heavy!! I would say it weighs about 25 lbs, its also much smaller as well as the new resonator which is also much lighter than stock. I dont know much about obx-r except its suppose to have a limited lifetime warranty and it bolted up pretty perfectly, i also decided to order new exhaust hangers to stop it from hitting the rear frame. Any other ideas on how to get rid of that tip?

With the tip as Patrick suggested you could take it to a shop and have them hack off some of the pipe behind the tip and reweld it on.

You could also hack it off yourself and bolt a new tip on. (might rattle like hell though)

I got some new hangers and did some modification to get it tucked in a little more, its about flush with the middle of the bumper now. Still got one heat shield rattling really bad though

It would probably cost you all of $20. Find an independent muffler shop (not a Midas/Meineke chain place) and they'll knock it out in a heartbeat.

Where is the offending heat shield? Chances are you can just remove it.

Damn, I cannot believe how small in diameter the oem exhaust is and how rusty it is already.

It's looks like a spaghetti strand AND what an odd path they choose for it. Look how curvey it is, def does not lend itself to good flow if you ask me.

Our 2.5i's and early had a nice straight path from front to back.

Old thread, I know, but at least I searched :P

I'm about to purchase this catback and want to know form the op, or anyone else who has this, did the sound change after break in (what the op mentioned, but never followed up on) any cabin drone?
I'm looking for something that is quiet while on the highway, but has some volume over throttle 3000rpm+

If it's 2.5 inch throughout with a 3-inch tip, save your money and buy a used WRX exhaust. Same diameter and tip. You should be able to get one for less than $100, not shipped.
