HYey guys, just a quick and easy question! What did you guys use to seal the threads of your EGT probes? Mine screwed in but it has a bit of leak thus giving a wavy and false reading! Thanks! Any info would be GREAT!

Home Depot, teflon tape. $0.89. But, I don't know if it could withstand the heat.

Hey, be more vague next time.
![]() What kind of probe? What kind of fitting? What are you currently usingn to seal it? How much torque did you give the fittings? Teflon tape will work, but a good anti-seize will work better. Just gotta torque it down pretty good and make sure it seals, though not strip the hell out of it. I don't know a real number, though, sorry. |

I may be way off here, but unless the amount of leakage is *huge* I can't see the reading being that off- the leakage is around the probe after all. Is something wrong with the sender? I've had 3 go bad on me thus far (I'll install #4 one of these days

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but how did you know the senders went bad?

To continue the hijacking, the needle on the gauge started fluctuating wildly, and eventually just stopped moving and pointed straight down (between 0 and 1600 deg F on the Autometer Phantom). The whole gauge was replaced and it still happened- replaced the sender (the probe) and it worked fine again. This has happened with one competition probe and two "regular" probes thus far. I have another competition probe to replace the presently broken probe with, I just have to get around to doing it. They have no idea why they keep blowing- it never sees temps over 1400-1450 deg F.

I'm assuming you're using either a BSPT or NPT screw in bung. If you want a tighter seal, you screw the bung in more. If you've reached the end of the bung's threads, then you tapped the hole too far.

Sorry, Defi gauge and bung and sender and everything...it is 1/8" pipe thread i think.....and hmmmmmm, it is in there pretty tight...the needle DOES fluctuate a lot though...from like 1400-1500 and like 800-1000...seems weird.
Thanks Austin! adamsrs |

The fluctuations could be your computer doing a timing dance and causing different EGT's
![]() And if you are using pipe thread (NPT) and you have leaks, you did something wrong. I would get a crush washer (Like on certain spark plugs) and use that. anyway, just a few thoughts ![]() Eric |
