What do they really do? I heard theyre for cold start emmissions, but can someone explain it please? and do they serve any other purpose.
Im about ready to do a 20g setup on my Sti and Im wondering if its really "necessary" to have the TGVs deleted as far as function and safety goes. I realize the butterfly valves are "in the way" and that its a bit restrictive. but I looked at the hours required for all of the parts and the TGVs took the most time of anything, kind of alot for something that isnt really necessary. so im thinking i'll just leave them in for now unless there some real reason to pay that much money to take them out.

You don't need to remove them if you use most 2.4 inch inlets.
As for their purpose, a quick search will give you the answer. |

Each TGV housing has 2 valves and 2 passage ways (one for each runner). During cold start ups the tgv's valves stay closed and force air into the passage way which "tumbles" the air, this makes for a more ideal air fuel mixture with a cold car. As long as your car is tuned properly running tgv deletes in cold climates is no problem. We're in Minnesota and run the deletes on all of our personal cars with no issues.
The TGV's are definitely the largest restriction in the oem intake system and i would definitely recommend them on just about any modded subaru, especially if you're upgrading to a turbo as large as a 20g. Yes the install does take a while but if you're already in there adding stuff like injectors or an inlet it wont take much extra time at all. Will your car run and be driveable without the deletes? Yes. Will the car run a lot better and not choke on the top end with the deletes? Yes. Mike Last edited by GrimmSpeed; 06-25-2010 at 05:42 PM. |
