Default My car is slooooow

Ok it's not that slow It beat a Mustang GT, the driver couldn't shift or hook his car up. It was really humid and ran like 2sec slower than it normally does.

This is my worst run i've ever done by far. The best RS only ran a 17.00 tonight. Anyone done worse? Yeah I know, I fell asleep at the tree too.

Well if it makes you feel any better, the best I ever did with my RS was a 16.6 in the quarter. And of course I red lighted on that run also. Oh well, it was fun either way.

Hopefully I'll do better as the year goes on, this was the first time I've raced in a year. Gotta practice launching. The r/t is easy to fix, just gotta run more. Yeah I knew my car was slow, but not that slow.

My best run of the night

But I really feel sorry for Mustang GT that lost to me

My slowest was a 15.8, but that was with a passenger.

What mods you got B?

Auto or 5 speed?

My fastest has been a 15.05 @ 89mph.

It's an auto, with an intake and just a muffler. Plus a set of heavy wheels. I'll go next week and maybe there won't be jungle like humidity and i'll run faster like i did last year. If i don't, the stock wheels are going back on.

Those wheels aren't gonna make that much difference as far as weight is concerned...don't cope out with that excuse.

Humidity will kill you everytime.

You need to learn to launch better and you'll see a difference.

dang dude, my jeep runs 16.8's on a good day, and 17.5's on a bad one (a few mods though)...must be something wrong with the people at the strip...that gt only got 18?? must of missed every gear if that number is right

doesn't a mustang GT have like 300 horsepower? i hope it's a very old one or something, because i know the new GTs are pretty fast. at least 14 second quarter miles, probably even the automatics can do that.

as for you...not bad. keep practicing and your times will improve.

That Mustang must be one of the 93-94 4 banger Mustangs.

Nope it was a stock GT, only made 215hp (plus it had big chrome wheels and a system that had to weigh a few hundred pounds, and there was no engine mods either). I checked out his ride befire the race, he had the 215 hp 5.0L in it, it was like a 94 or 95 gt.

This is a really slow track, an Integra gsr only ran a 17.9, a highly modded RS only ran 17.00, the newer Mustang with the dohc cam engines were in the low 16s

I'll race him next week and even take pics of it if everyone want to be such ******** about it

Different tracks give you different numbers, so does different weather. I've been 2sec faster in ideal weather at a different track.

I'm not using the wheels as an excuse Tara, I'm sure I could've gained a 1/10 if I had the stockers on though I didn't launch how I should, trying to be nice to the tranny since I have to drive 1500mi this week, but next week I'll launch her right and drop a whole second easily off my 1/4 mi time. Yeah the humidity killed my car. Only cars there that seemed to like the humidity were grand am gt's, they were running as fast as stock mustang gt's. It is the weirdest thing, I gotta get pictures of this next week, it's amazing that the 175hp auto grand ams were doing the same 1/4 mi times as stock mustang GTs were

work on your 60 ft time. a 2.7 is horrible. most front wheel drive cars pull 2.2-2.4. for each tenth off the the 60ft time you get 2 tenths off the 1/4. keep practicing!!

I'm not condoning using any excuses, although your wheels make a big difference in your times. A smaller wheel will give you a better launch, although a larger wheel will give you a better top speed. Put your stockers back on, and then see what you run. The car will launch easier due to less rotational mass. I think that your launch is your problem right now, needs to be quicker. I'm sure you already know this, although don't forget that your RT doesn't make a difference with your ET.

At least my car is consistently slow
I can get a better launch, but I don't wanna break the slushbox...yet I'll post time slips this thursday and hopefully I'll improve. Can only do so much with a 3000lb, 165hp, auto though

Are you manually shifting your auto? That will improve your times for sure.

With that slow of a time, i should race you in my car Naw, i'd probably have like a 20 second 1/4 mile My moms 2.5 GT is ALOT faster than my car and its an auto too...

My new and improved times
17.745@77.08mph
I lost to a dohc 5spd neon (lighter, more powerful and a 5spd, should've expected that)

I know I can go alot faster, but I'm afraid of breaking the slushbox. If my car wasn't at the dealer all day I would've put the lighter wheels on and saved 40lbs+

Are you going to turbo it? Torque converter? My RS has only a catback, cobb intake, & cobb street cams and it's a little beast (it's 5 spd tho)... Once i get some headers on it'll be a mean little machine.

IT won't beat a stock wrx in the 1/4, but it'll come close - and for a lot cheaper too

hey Jason_K how do you like the street cams? Any problems with reliability? Can you feel a difference in power?

these autos do not lend themselves to drage racing in stock form. I can get a launch at about 2950 rpm (stock TC) when at my work site (it has a nice road).

When at the drag strip the other night I could not get the stall up above 2100rpm. Got the same kind of results you did. 60 ft times around 2.9 sec, 1/4 mile, 17.1 range.

BTW, PadreWRX (before his TC upgrade) had the same kind of problems at this strip. We have not figured out why the difference (alt, temp and humidity same at both my work and strip). I am investigating tranny fluid temps, etc.

Just in case, when you launch, the sequence should be:

1) stage the first light
2) rev engine to approx 5k rpm
3) hold for a second or two
4) mash down brake and let off gas
5) when rpms fall below 2k shift into D
6) immediately full throttle
7) revs should build to stall (3-5 sec)
8) when at peak rpm stage second light
9) on last yellow light let go of brake and hold on :-)

DO NOT RUN BACK TO BACK using this method. You have to give the trannyf luid time to cool down between runs. About 20 min should do it. You really need a tranny temp gage if you are going to race with an auto ( and a TC upgrade

b_tapper,

Thanks for posting your time. People can learn a lot from it the better you get so you can share your information.

Your 60ft time is NOT horrible. Yes, it could be improved upon but you drive an auto. Even at your best, with a stock torque converter on an auto, you'd be lucky to get a 2.2 on a really cold day. When you get around 2.3-2.4's then you know you are almost launching at your best (for an auto). You'll probably here some auto stories here or elsewhere about guys/gals getting a 2.1 or lower 60ft time but that is not typical of your average auto subaru owner. Don't be discouraged!

Your 1/4 mile time isn't even my concern since it can be affected so much by your 60ft time. It's your trap speed that has gotten me. Some of the older subarus (with 1.8ltrs) and the newer 2.2's usually trap at 74-77mph. A 2.5RS can be found to trap anywhere from 81.5mph - 89mph depending on N/A (Normally Aspirated) on mods. 90mph+ if REALLY N/A modded. You are trapping at 75mph. It seems a lot of power is being lost or diverted by something, like your heavy rims (and heavy rims DOES make a difference). The humidity doesn't help at all either.

At any rate, keep up the good work. Those 1/4 mile times will tell you so much about how your car is making power if you read it right. At least you have some baseline runs and can compare once you do more mods (if you mod more). Take Care!
