Default 06' OBP STi Wash, Clay, Wax

Detailed an 06 OBP STi yesterday that was pretty darn dirty.

Back story:
Owner is middle twenties and is a full time Marine recruiter in Northern Michigan, and a very nice guy. With all the time that he spends helping our country, he has very little time to spend on his car, as 15 - 16 hour days are quite common. He has been to california and back to michigan without a wash. With just that fact the task before me was quite large. . . let alone the most difficult thing about it, I had 5 and a half hours to do it.

Picked up car at 5 PM, talked and made it home by 5:15, and this is how she looked.

About half way trough the wash, using Meguiar's NXT car wash.

Lots of scrubbing needed to find out that these wheels were silver:

Did this on purpose, cleaned the rest of the car except this area of the trunk to show how dirty it was. ( Sprayed down car very thoroughly with water before even thinking of touching with mitt)

Stopped to take a break for dinner for 10 - 15 minutes, burnt myself no less than 5 times on food, came back out to a dry car to see where I stood

Washed entire car over again, spending roughly an hour on the front bumper / hood of car, it wasn't so much the dirt, but the accumulation of bugs that was bad.

Clayed car, regrettably I too no pictures of process.

Washed car completely again.

Hand drying all cracks and crevices, Included door jams, gas cover, hood, and trunk. Dealing with the "pig snout" on the front was also a pain because it liked holding water.

Used Meguiar's NXT wax also, again, no time to take pictures.

But the end result turned out pretty well I feel.

Tire black still soakin in, it was 1025 and nearly dusk at this point... camera's exposure was 4-5 seconds on this shot.

I wished I had about 3 more hours to really make this car shine. The wheels and the brake calipers were my biggest two gripes with it, but I didn't have the time to spend that night. Perhaps the next time I'll make it a 2 day wash and hopefully pull those wheels. I went to the recruiting office today to make sure that I didn't miss any spots of wax because I wasn't 100% sure that I got it all in the low light last night...missed 2 spots on the spoiler and that is all, so I was fairly pleased with that.

Owner was very happy with the detail and I got a message this morning from a friend who saw it last night when he was on his way home saying it looked good as well.

Any one in Northern Mich looking for a detail, please let me know! Poor college student with a love for Subaru's would love to detail your car!

Any questions... Let me know.

Looks good, you could have spent another 5 hours easily though by the looks of the before pics. The ironic thing about these cars that never get washed is they always look awesome when they are done right cause the owners do not put swirls in the clear coat every week by washing/waxing the car.

Yes, most definately, I haven't done it in a while, but trying to do much of anything to a vehicle while even slightly injured just leads to poor work and even more pain after!

Yes, I had at least 4 seconds of exposure on some shots. Tripod FTW. (very junk camera too)

Puretorque, I'm trying to find the image shack link to the whole album, I didn't take a ton of pictures because of the time, but I managed to take a few more than shown
