Default plastic bumper trouble.

I have been running Subarus since 1975. Well over 1,000,000 trouble free miles. My wife and I had identical 1995 1.8 Impreza models. Mine now has over 300,000 miles and going strong.

My wife decided she wanted a new one back in 2006. While it runs fine, the front plastic bumper is about 2 inches off the ground. We live in the mountains of Utah where we get 25 feet of snow each winter with a steep drive way. At the top is a hairpin turn to get on to the street. It requires a 3 point turn. As winter goes on the snow piles up and becomes solid. If you bump it the plastic bumper brakes. It also brakes if scraped on some driveways, concrete curbs and parking space dividers. It's just too low and brittle. What good is a bumper which can't bump anything. After braking the first one she took it back to the dealer and paid 1000 bucks for a new one. This one is now broken.

Is there and after market bumper which is flexable which would solve this problem? While the car runs great it's not even close to being as solid as my 1995. I wouldn't even think of getting another Impreza. Plastic and light weight stuff all over the thing.

I only paid $275 for my JDM front bumper and $200 to paint it. WOW $1000 seems steep!

You can get a taller tire or a small lift kit to get your car more the height of a rally car or get a light bar for the front.
Other then that I don't know of another bumper you can use the is stronger.

Good luck

I never baby a car. Cars work for me I don't work for them.

My 1994 1.8 Impreza has over 300,000 miles on it. I live in the mountains of Utah where we seem snow from Sept to June, over 25 feet each year. Slat all over the place.

My car is a total rust bucket but runs like the day I got it.
Repairs.
1 cam belt
1 alternator belt
1 CV boot
1 front bearing
1 radiator
2 brake calipers
2 rotors

It does leak a bit of power steering fluid which is about 1.50 a quart so who cares.

That's it in 16 years. I run with Mobil 1 10W40 and only change it every 15000 miles, filter at 7500.

Have been driving Subarus since 1977 well over 1,000,000 miles. Just can't kill the things.

When I buy any car or truck I expect to get at least 250,000 miles or 20 years. I also have a 1994 Toyota T100 with 180,000 mile with only brake repairs and a muffler.
