Default 97 Outback Sport - Key stuck in ignition

Hey everyone,

I just bought a 97 Outback Sport with a 5 speed to replace my auto MY93 Impreza and I am having major issues with the factory subaru keys getting stuck in the ignition. Apparently there is a key lock release lever underneath the steering column cover but according to the owners manual, this lever only exists on AT cars, so whats the deal? How can I forcefully remove the key without damaging anything? Is there anyway to fix this problem permanently.

Thanks!
Alec

take something pointy (pen pencil pick or the likes) and put it next to the key and push in while turning it back to lock, then call your local Subaru dealer and get the key code for your car, they will need the VIN number to look it up, then you go to a locksmith and have some new keys cut. It worked for me when I had that problem.
