Default oil pump or bearing?

ok, I'm kind of a newb to subarus even though I've owned my impreza for 2 1/2 yrs now (love it). I do all the maintenance to it. Recently I've heard a knocking but a suction sound like it's having trouble moving fluid coming from inside my engine between the ps pump and alternator I'm at a loss right now bc it's my only car to drive at the time I'm thinking it's my oil pump about to go, so I called the dealership just to see what they had to say and the tech said I shouldn't have to replace the oil pump, that it usually means the engine is about to go. Has neone ever had this before. It doesn't leak oil. it does burn oil, but very little. Prob have to top off with 1/8 of a qrt once a month or so. I was also thinking it may be a bad timing belt tensioner pulley going bad also. If neone can give their thoughts it would be highly appreciated I don't have the funds to replace engine right now. I've planned on it for the yr to come, just not now

thans in advance,
kevin

post a sound clip. You can also remove your PS/alt belt and run engine for a min or so to see if the sound is still present.

sounds odd. Does the noise increase in sound or frequency as you give it gas? Does it always do this ore does it go away after warming up

it does increase but only til I hit around 1700-2000 rpm then it goes away. When the engine is first started it doesn't make the noise until the rpm drop to normal after engine is warm

are you talking about the visible pulley that the ac belt is on or one of the pulleys behind the timing belt cover?

yea it makes the same power that I can tell, I don't know for sure though. It pulls as much as it could before which wasn't much. My oil level hasn't changed since berfore this occurred I plan on changing my oil this weekend. I thinking of taking the belts off to check under my timing belt cover.
