Default Building a PGT or Group N rally car. Are you selling a 5MT 2.5 RS or 5MT AWD 2.2?

OK, it's official. My OBS is dead and I'm looking for a used 5MT Impreza 2.5 RS or 5MT AWD Impreza 2.2 (any year, any style). MY98 Impreza 2.5 RS or MY96 Impreza 2.2 OBS/L preferred but I'm looking for ANY Impreza. The car will be my temporary daily driver and will be prepared as the next Trunkmonkey Racing flagship vehicle built to PGT or Group N specification for ClubRally, Rallycross, Ice Racing and, eventually, ProRally.

If anyone has an Impreza for sale please get in contact with me ASAP. I have until July 1st to find a vehicle because that's when I lose the the MY86 Mercedes 190E that I've been borrowing. Cosmetic body damage is not an issue because the car will be repaired and given a full repaint anyway. Since this car will become a rally car I don't care about the car's history but I do expect full disclosure (was the car beat on, any accidents, powershifting, etc.) so I know what to add to my list of things to replace (suspension, clutch, wheel bearings, etc.).

Thanks all!

Isn't suba-tubaru (or whatever his name is) trying to sell his MT Legacy? It's got some aftermarket parts though- not sure if they would take you out of PGT or not.

Suggestions:

-The Want Ad: $1.75 comes out every tuesday.
-Wander the back lots at the local dealerships. Milford Subaru is pretty much dry for parts cars like you were asking about (I've been keeping a close eye) but I haven't been parousing Exeter, Nashua, or Manch.
- Give the local boneyards a call. The few that come to mind are Jeff's Car world in Candia, Lamberts in Goffstown(?), Majestic Motors and Matt's Salvage; both in Merrimack.

Good luck,
Fitz

Sean, PMed you. Not too sure if you'll want to spend this much on the car...but I figure I'd throw it out there, see what happens...

I'll go over to Exeter and Tri-City soon(and a few local used car dealers), and see what I can dredge up. Good luck, Sean.

I find the want ads (paper edition) are pretty much a bust when looking for a subaru, I've looked for the hell of it, thinking of a winter beater or project car and just for fun. not many if any at all

good luck sean. and if you need any help installing stuff, don't hesitate to pm me

speed safely

OK, thanks all for the suggestions. I'm looking specifically at Imperzas instead of Legacys and XTs for the simple reason that I'm familiar with them and already have spares. Kel used to drive a Legacy and it just felt "big". Even though I know the Impreza and Legacy are almost exactly the same size I just didn't feel right in a Legacy.

Regarding Autotrader and Want Advertiser, I've been trolling those for the past week. If I see an incredible deal I'll jump on it. But when was the last time a dealer or a private sale from someone you didn't know gave you full disclosure? I know that if I buy from a local i-clubber they'll give me a rundown on problem areas of the car instead of having the standard "take the money and run...sucker" attitude. Since I'll be rallying the car I don't care about damage when I buy it...I just want to know what needs to be fixed before a wheel bearing unexpectedly explodes 4 miles into a stage.

Also, all Imprezas get beat on. I'll just know that if an i-clubber beat on it it was beat on with the most love possible! Kha0S, bluesubie and I were having that discussion last night. The chances of getting a lemon from a non i-clubber are quite high. "I broke my car, can't fix it so now I'm selling it." I've found that most i-clubbers at least respect their Imprezas while beating on them (no neutral drops, no tarmac scoobnuts, etc.).

FYI- I dont think the 2.2L or 2.5L motor were ever homologated for Group N.

Thank you muchly...so if that's the case I'd be diving into PGT or Open, get my ass kicked for the sake of seat time, and then move up/down/over to Group N when I had the resources to swap the motor and tranny...

Here's the list. Looks like the only Gr. N homologated Impreza is the 2.0L turbo 4WD

I wouldnt want to be in Gr. N right now anyways. There's an assload of Gr. N WRXs and Evos running right now. PGT would definitely be the best place to start. Or, there's been some talk about moving the 1.8L AWD Impreza down into P class. Talk to Rovah about that, I know he's in the process of building one and trying to get it run in P so he doesnt have to compete against the clearly superior Evos and WRXs.

Holy crap, really? Whirred to that. Yeah, the car I'm building will be my daily driver for at least a year so I want a platform with some oomph behind it...that's why I was straying away from the 1.8 FWD...but 1.8 AWD I could handle.

One thing to keep in mind with the 1.8L though is that the axles are smaller and weaker than the 2.2L & 2.5L axles. So if you plan on doing a 2.0L turbo or similar conversion you'll need the entire driveline.

Sean,
Your not buying the Wagon back?

If I see anything in the P-classifieds, I'll let you know. There was this link a few weeks ago:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=194043

I think the car is in GA though.

You could also call Teagues Auto and tell them what your interested in. They seem to get lots of used auction cars down there.
