Default 91 Legacy uses the same filter as 2006 STI?

Because that is what the parts guy at the local Suby dealership says.

A 2.2 NA uses the same filter as a 2.5L Turbo engine?

Oil filter.

Part numbers for K&N oil filters are different. Someone working at the a Suby dealership should be correct right? except this is the same place where the last time my wife asked for a STI oil filter, the parts dude asked 4cyl or the 6 cyl STI?

I can tell you my K&N air filter came out of my brother's 05 STI. I have a 98 Legacy with 2.2l.

It looks like Subaru now uses a single oil filter for ALL 1990 4 cyl turbo and non-turbo cars.

So the Subaru dealership is wrong?

Do you happen to have the part numbers?

i dont have dealer part numbers. (just what autozone comes up with) on a side note. go to the dealer, ask for both oil filters u wanna check out. if the center of the gaskets are the same i dont see why it wouldnt work. basically, butt each oil filter together face to face, if they match up, either should work. but in all honesty, i would just run the stock oil filter for ur 91 legacy. << judging by ur post i guess thats what u have?

4 or 5 years ago (or maybe all the way back in '02 when the first modern turbo cars showed up) the turbo cars came with a smaller filter than the N/A cars. Eventually, Subaru transitioned to all the cars using the same small filter.

It really shouldn't matter - the filters should be interchangeable.

Thanks. That is what I started to figure out. I also got a Mobil 1 filter as part of a oil/filter discount deal and it is the same small size as the Subaru filter.
