Default Tire Wheel Input

Looking for input on my new wheel/tire combo. Ordering either Rota Gforces or Tarmac 3s in hyperblack. If I go with the Gforces they will be 17x8 and if I go with Tarmac 3s they will be 18x8. Car is an 07 2.5i which will be dropped on GF210 springs so I have to bear in mind that much weight added to wheels will rob me of power and I don't have much to start with.

Here's my car now...

This is subydude81's 2.5i on GF210s sitting on 18x8s with 235/40R18s

This is another member's ride also dropped on springs (crucial racing) sitting on 17x8 Gforces wrapped in 235/45R17s

Should I go with

18x8 with 235/40R18 (diameter 25.40", sidewall height 3.70")
17x8 with 235/45R17 (diameter 25.32", sidewall height 4.16")
17x8 with 235/40R17 (diameter 24.40", sidewall height 3.70")
17x8 with 225/45R17 (diameter 24.97", sidewall height 3.98")

Stock size is 205/55R16 (diameter 24.87", sidewall height 4.43")

I believe all of these should fit with no rubbing issues with the springs installed. I'm leaning towards 17s with either the 235/45R17 or 225/45R17

What is the wheel offset? It is also important match with your DF210
For 8" 225 is the optimal size, too strech or meaty tires might have sidewall issue, but 235 works too

I voted for 17x8 with 225/45R17

I believe the offset is e48 for both wheel sizes

Agreed. 17x8 is a great size for DD and 225 is a good with to go with.

18's on a 2.5i is a recipe for painfully slow acceleration 17x8 & 225/45/17 is the way to go.

That was my thinking as well.

The 18s are getting votes tho, is it purely aesthetics? Those of you voting for the 18s, what's your reasoning?

It's pure aesthetics. Then again how much does it really matter for dd?

16x7 225's...

if you're going all the way to a 17x8, man up and get a set of 235's minimum.

Rota Gforces or Tarmac 3s, do you know what these weight.

it's irrelevant to argue slow acceleration and weight if you don't know what these weight.

for example 04 STI BBS 17x7 ET53 16.5lbs + RE070 225/45/17 27lbs = 43.5lbs

my old Rota DPT 17x9 ET42 20lbs + RE070 255/40/17 28lbs = 48lbs

4.5lbs more on each corner, but like at the width difference.

you pick up minifreak's SSR's in an 18x8 those are about 16lbs give or take + 225/40/18 RE11 (no RE070 in that size) it's 26 lbs

thats 42lbs, lighter then BBS stock setup on a 225 wide 18.

that was also only using Bridgestone tires which are heavier then most tires. you pick a lighter tire and voila you have better performance and you get the look your after.

Oh, if Mini's SSR's are still available I would take those in a second...nice light wheel and still get the 18" BLING!

I agree. 225 will give you a nice sidewall with 8" rims, and you don't have the horsepower to be dragging around super wide rubber.

Johnson's 18x8 SSR competitions would be a really good option too. They're stupid light, and come already wrapped in 225's. Besides the obvious fuel/power savings, the light weight will keep the suspesion sensitive... I definitely notice a small loss in sensitivity when I switch to my summer rubber every year. Save some money for future car projects?

225/45R17 is also closest to the stock 205/55R16 rolling diameter. I think it's off by 0.4% or something like that? 215/45R17 is slightly smaller by about 1%.

If anything, I believe there are more tire selection choices under the 225/45 sizing rather than 215/45.

LaterZ!

Damn it I wish I can fit 225/45R17 without rubbing - that's what I voted. Unless you plan on upgrading brakes to fill out the rim, stay small.

I believe the 18x8 Tarmac 3s are 20.1 lbs (mounted should be close to the weight Drakar posted for his DPTs) and I can't find a weight anywhere for the Gforces in the 17x8. I'm going to get all the weights first and weigh my 2.5i stockers before I make my decision. Also have to decide if it really makes a difference since I mainly do slow city driving anyways.

The SSRs are nice just not the look I'm going for. I think they would actually look sweet on Tim's Newport Blue though.
